I just heard a disturbing statistic
Prop 8 was supported by African Americans, 70%-30%. (KFI radio news: 4:00) (Whites and Latinos voted against it. ) I am shocked that so many who know discrimination first hand would vote for discrimination against others.

that it's a "choice" we are all making (as opposed to race) and that essentially we're just being difficult to aggravate people. The arrogance in that makes me wish there was a GAYER gay that I could choose to show them what aggravating is. (sigh) My two cents. Careful, I got the gay virus all over them.......

6. But straight women tend to vote in favor of gay marriage
Even though women as a group have not yet reached parity.

8. It's really hard to remain objective with statistics like that
I mean, I understands the reasons WHY black voters might be more likely to be bigoted against GLBT people but that certainly does not help what I'm feeling right now. I feel betrayed and angry and hurt.

9. Yeah, a full 70% of African Americans in CA hate us.
Talk about showing their true colors when it comes to civil rights. That 70% obviously cares about themselves only. DAMN us or so one of them just told me here on DU.

that's why we got Gays as an issue in the '04 election. It pulled both Blacks and Evangelicals.

12. It really doesn't surprise me.
There has been a real backlash in the black community, caused by problems associated with all the guys on the "Down Low". That, coupled by the huge number of black males who are ineligible to vote, doomed Prop8.

16. Problem of course (DL black gay men and AIDS etc), that their own churches and culture instigated
It's all a bleeding cycle, building upon itself.

14. I hadn't thought about that, but now that you mention it I'm not surprised
based on some people I talk to at work. It's a shame.

19. I'm not in CA, but this thread caused me to remember a black co-worker
telling me about her husband's prejudice against gays. I found it appalling.
