Poll: Support For Anti-Gay Calif. Amendment Widens
(San Francisco, California)
A new poll, taken for a Catholic group opposed to same-sex marriage, shows that support is widening for a proposed amendment to ban gay unions in California.

The survey, conducted by Marist College Institute of Public Opinion, found the proposed amendment now has a 9 percentage point lead among likely voters — 52 percent to 43 percent.

The poll was taken between September 28 and October 5 for the Knights of Columbus, which has helped raise millions of dollars to promote the proposed amendment.

The sample included 1,008 likely voters in California, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

2. So when does the church work on a amendment banning divorce?
since they seem to want to legislate their religious teachings.

3. It really is quite disturbing that certain representatives of a religious organization
want to push THEIR values on other people

The obvious hypocricy of the Church covering up the molesting of children for years should cause them to hide their head in shame

Italy doesn't seem to have this problem. It only seems prevelent in this country

There have been certain religious groups, not just Catholic, who have also preached at the pulpit not to vote Democratic because of their right to choose stand

Perhaps it is time to reconsider tax exempt status of religious institutions

4. I live in San Diego and I just drove home and...
on every major intersection on every corner at least 8-10 people are standing with Yes on 8 signs... Send $$$ to the no on 8 campaign. They have even been going door to door giving signs and bumper stickers and believe me people are using them! It's all about who has the most cash at this point to put ads on tv. We in Cali see more ads for Prop 8 then we do for about anything else on the ballot!

5. There are quite a few for prop 11 up here in Northern California
I would have thought Californians would want to keep their nose out of people's personal lives

The Church and current government doesn't, but I am pretty disappointed in the stupidity of my fellow Californians

The no on 8 ads are misrepresenting and lying about the whole proposition

Sometimes looking at where the country is as a whole today, I sometimes think we deserve exactly what we are going through

A lot of the money on no on 8 is coming from outside of the state

7. we need to propose an amendment to vote on criminalizing
heterosexual marriage.

seriously. I'd sign the petition.

Also, we need to set up a social liberal club called Hairy Dames of Columbus. Who's in?!

8. Completely Bogus “Poll” - its a push poll
http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com/2008/10/21/4077

Question asked "The language in Proposition 8 defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman was approved by more than 61% of California voters in 2000. Earlier this year, four judges in San Francisco overturned this vote and declared that gay people have a constitutional right to be married. Do you think the judges were correct in their decision, or not?"

"Please tell me whether each of the following makes you more or less likely to support Proposition 8. What if you learned that:

If Proposition 8 passes, gay or lesbian couples will still be able to form civil unions and have the same rights as married heterosexual couples
If Proposition 8 fails, heterosexual couples who want to be legally married in a church that won’t perform same-sex marriage would then have to be married outside their church
If Proposition 8 fails, priests, ministers, and other clergy who won’t perform same-sex marriages because of their religious beliefs will face lawsuits and may lose their right to perform heterosexual marriages
If Proposition 8 fails, children in public schools will be taught that marriage is a relationship between any two adults rather than a man and a woman
If Proposition 8 fails, religious schools that provide housing for married students may lose their tax-exempt status if they don’t do so for gay or lesbian couples
If Proposition 8 fails, religious adoption agencies that place children only in homes with a mother and a father will not be able to place children in foster homes"
