"The gays" are apparently pushing a "pet issue" (gay marriage) and getting some of the straight folk in a snit"

1. "Some of the straight folk"???
Do you mean the possible FReep trolls?

Fuck 'em. Gays get the same rights we do. End of story.

2. It would be really nice if we did
But we don't, and that pisses a lot of us GLBT people off. Watching "our" candidate say that our rights are important, then turn around 180 degrees and say that he opposes those very same rights, is more than just a simple slap in the face.

I am not at all surprised that we are getting pissed off, yet again, at the bigotry expressed by the Democrats on the matter of equal rights.

3. The "face talk" and the reality of what he thinks may be two differnt things.
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 12:39 PM by YOY
I know Democrats who don't know a single (openly) gay person. I had a friend come out recently to several of my fellow MBA grad alumni friends (we're not stanchly conservative CEO types anyways). I had suspected it for quite some time but it never made a single difference to me.

I had to congratulate him on his courage. The more TGs, gays, and lesbians that are out and not afraid to admit who they are means the more open minded (read: Democrats and open minded independants) can say: "I know a gay guy. He's really quite normal." the better. What better way to kill ignorance than to present them with the truth?

I highly doubt Obama is going to cater to the haters.

8. We can be so annoying
We stamp our little feet and whine about this equality shit and actually expect to be taken seriously by at least on of the two major parties. It was probably kind of cute at first but we do it every election cycle and now it must be getting really old. Got to feel bad for the straights having to put up with this stuff from us over and over again.

6. Unfortunately, they're not freep trolls,
though one of them, I'm pretty sure, is a sockpuppet, since he only shows up when someone attacks a certain very prolific poster over there who was the first to jump on the OP of that thread for being insufficiently worshipful of our candidate. (It's not just a gay thing, though--she attacks anyone who voices the slightest, gentlest, most justified criticism of him.)

Nope, ever since I came here in 2001 there have been posters who specialize in blaming us for everything that goes wrong for our party. I wish I could say that we're talking trolls here, but go to that thread, find the ugliest posts, and check out the profiles. Most have been here a fairly long time.

4. they need flak jackets, not us
Our friends are our friends, and the rest over there are poseurs.

All that thread does is shine a harsh light on how easy we are to patronize. Us silly gays with our fake marriages and fake lives. Ze Party is Everysing! Ze Glorious Party! You are nossing! Vote for us anyway. Dur?

Sorry for evil german mad scientist uber alles accent, but some people over there forget that a party is the ideas it supports.

If it doesn't support your issues, then it's not your party.

It's not evil german rocket science.

7. Disgraceful
is what it is. Utterly mortifying to me as a Democrat, and a parent of a gay child (OK, so that child is nearly 28, still, he is my only child)

Oh well, I put my thoughts in that thread, and no one so far has tore me up (they can't, I am right and they know it) But I am sure someone will try eventually.

Yes, you will need an extra strong stomach.

9. It's not just this one thread.
There are several threads going on over there right now where so-called progressives are marginalizing us. It's disgusting and really has no place here.

10. I've gotten quite an education today.
You know, I can sort of deal with the blatant homophobia. It's the "stop whining, you selfish assholes" part from allegedly progressive Democrats around here that gets me.

For the first time in a long time I don't feel like I'm "allowed" over in GD: P because I voiced my displeasure with the ticket's stance on Gay Marriage

15. We got thrown under the Hopemobile last October,
making us one of the first Democratic constituencies to end up there.

Has everyone forgotten the McClurkin Fiasco so soon?

That's when things turned especially antigay here at DU.
