My gay $$ at work, and Sordid Lives.
Well, today was a learning experience for me. I'm sure many of you know the movie Sordid Lives (it's one of my FAVORITE movies). Well, I'd found out that there is a television series starting next month on the Logo network! I'd never heard of this network before (maybe I live too much of a sheltered life), so hopped onto my sat service provider, Dish Network to check what package offered that network.. I was surprised to find they didn't, so I went to LOGO's website and found out that in my area, the only way I can get it is off of DirectTV.

After doing some web searching I haven't been able to find a definitive answer why Dish Network doesn't carry Logo, but whatever the reason, I called Dish Network, canceled my subscription, and had it listed that the lack of the gay network was my sole reason for departure, and will be having Direct TV installed next week! If it's anywhere near the original Movie, it's going to be one HILARIOUS series!

1. Comcast carries Logo in my area, but only in certain digital cable packages
Currently, I can't get it, because I recently downgraded my cable package to save a few $$. :(

2. It took a while for Logo to be added to RCN cable.
But happily it is. :-)

I believe the same cast from the movie (Leslie Jordan and Olivia Newton-John, among others) are reprising their roles for the series. I liked "Sordid Lives" a lot, also.

3. I have DirectTV and Logo looks like crap on it....
they compress the hell out of the channel in order to offer more and more channels. It looks worse than an old VHS tape (and I have a very good TV and receiver that uses one of the best upscaling software around). I've checked it on several others TVs that have DirectTV with and they all look awful. Its watchable just not the best quality picture.

I should note that I love DirectTV though - it works great for what I want and many of the HiDef channels look great (Logo is not HiDef - just digital).

4. Great Choice!
I've had DirectTv for 9 years now and will never have anything else ;). They picked up Logo right away and I've been watching for 3-4 years now. They have had a great rate of growth from playing only glbt themed movies etc to producing and airing their own material. For those who have not see their lineup, check out logotvonline.com. I'm soooooooooooooooooo excited about Sordid Lives I've been watching the movie weekly for the last month "building up to" the launch of the series. For those who do not know, the writer/director/producer of Sordid Lives (both the movie and series) was also a writer for Queer as Folk and wrote etc one of my other all time favorite (no glbt) movies, Daddy's Dyin' Who's Got the Will?

7. OK, I'm going to make you jealous now....
Frameline, the LGBT film festival of San Francisco and the Bay Area, showed it this last Saturday, and I was there for the screening. Margaret Cho made an appearance, as did Beth Grant, (Sissy Hickey), Ann Walker (LaVonda Dupree) who flashed the audience her bra!, Jason Dottley (Ty Williamson) who also flashed the audience but in another way..., and Dale Dickey, who was in the audience. The director Del Shores introduced everyone, and wagged a finger at the outgoing Frameline director for rejecting the movie from the festival years earlier.

It was hilarious, as you guessed, and funny as hell.

I got so starstruck from standing literally feet away from Margaret Cho that I didn't think to take a photo of her, but others did. Here's a link to some photos from the event. The show is hysterical, and I say do whatever you can to get it on your TV!

10. We have LOGO on our local digital cable tier....
and I'm SOOOOOO looking forward to the series! We're having a party, in fact!

Otherwise, I don't watch LOGO very often. I've already seen most of the movies repeatedly, and I'm not really into most of their original programming. The only thing I try not to miss is the Big Gay Sketch Comedy show...
