What the hell Greensboro.
I was going to go to my first pride this year and I just checked out the date and it was on May 10 so it is already over. I am mad because last year it was in August and that was the date I was expecting it to be held. I was not aware that it was moved up to May. I am now going to have to wait until next year.

2. That does seem very early to hold Pride
Maybe they're trying to keep from competing with bigger (or other) cities? I know SF and LA try to make sure that they hold Pride on different weekends for example.

5. It would be nice if Pride celebrations were at least held in the same damn month
That's why we stopped trying to participate. The calendar is so complicated I can't keep up with when the damn thing is.

6. Sorry you missed it but I can't wait to go to Chicago in June. I marched in the first parade there.
That was in 1969. Actually the first parade wasn't a parade.

It was a march down to the Civic Center on the sidewalks because we didn't have a permit for the street.

We got that the following year in 1970. Then the parade really started to take off.

I'm proud to have been there at that first event. 39 years and counting.

9. Come down to Atlanta. We have a FABULOUS pride and it's only a few hours drive
I've been to gay pride in a lot of cities: Atanta, Chicago, Tampa, LA, and San Francisco. While there really is nothing quite like gay pride in San Francisco, in terms of the venue, the atmosphere, the crowd and the entertainment, Atlanta is tops. It really is. Charlie Brown's moonlight cabaret in the park is an Atlanta institution and is not to be missed. The celebrity "headliner" for Sunday night always gets second billing to Charlie Brown's cabaret. That's how popular it is.

My partner is Deaf, so we always get prime seating right in front of the stage reserved for the hearing impaired who need to view the interpreter. Last year, I had about a third of the stage almost to myself during Deborah Gibson's performance since most of the reserved seating doesn't listen much to popular music.
