Domestic Partner Bill Revived In New Mexico
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon08/01/011808nm.htm

A domestic partner bill that died in the New Mexico legislature this spring has been revived at the prodding of Gov. Bill Richardson (D).

The legislation would create a statewide domestic partnership registry for both same and opposite-sex couples.

Couples would register with local county clerks and receive certificates attesting their relationships. Partners would have to attest they are over the age of 18 and not otherwise in a relationship.

They would be guaranteed access to each other in hospitals and be able to make medical decisions for partners who are unable to make those decisions themselves, and they would be granted other state benefits and rights accorded to partners in marriages.

couldn't remember if this had been posted or not

1. Living here in NM my view is like this
the NM State legislature only meets for a 30 day session this year. For those not from here our legislature meets for 30 days in even years and 60 days in odd years and then they go home to their real jobs and careers. A likely outcome to this legislation is that it will be tabled in favor of higher priority and less controversial matters since we have a short session this year. The legislature, while overwhelmingly Democratic, is not particularly liberal, and might even be seen as conservative by DU's somewhat skewed standards.

2. Domestic partners ???
I heard Bill Richardson say with my own ears that he would sign gay marriage into law if it appeared
on his desk. So why stop at domestic partners ???
