Links to cases of discrimination?
I'm in a discussion with someone who is pretty ignorant of what we need. He keeps telling me "you haven't shown me one case to support your argument." I usually try to stay away from anecdotal evidence but I think I want to throw him a few.

The right I'm most emphasizing with him in this discussion about marriage is the fact that we can be denied visitation rights. If you know of any cases about this, great.

I'd greatly appreciate any other links about verified occurrences of discrimination, too.

Thanks.

2. Here's some ammo
That guy is seriously misinformed!

EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GAYS & LESBIANS

Christians Sue for Right to Discriminate Against Gays (Since Christians are claiming "anti-discrimination" laws that protect gays end up discriminating against Christians, you can argue that there obviously is discrimination against gays--otherwise there would be no laws against the discrimination.)

Gays prohibited from adopting children in Florida

And biological parenthood is no guarantee either:

4. Are There Special Issues If A Gay Or Lesbian Parent Is Seeking Custody
Or Visitation Rights?

In A Few States, Including Alaska, California, District Of Columbia, New
Mexico And Pennsylvania, A Parent's Sexual Orientation Cannot In And Of
Itself Prevent A Parent From Being Given Custody Of Or Visitation With His
Or Her Child. As A Practical Matter, However, Lesbian And Gay Parents--Even
In Those States--May Be Denied Custody Or Visitation. This Is Because
Judges, When Considering The Best Interests Of The Child, May Be Motivated
By Their Own Or Community Prejudices,
And May Find Reasons Other Than The
Lesbian Or Gay Parent's Sexual Orientation To Deny Custody Or Appropriate
Visitation.

Nolo's Fast Facts:Child Custody and Visitation

And worse yet:

There are now evidently only four states where gays and lesbians can be denied custody based solely upon their sexual orientation: Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia.
Anti-gay custody ruling rejected

This is an "FAQ" containing info about why Gay Marriage is so important, how gays really are oppressed, and religion/church issues.

Gays in HI denied equal housing 34% of gays turned away from housing solely for being gay!

This is a very informative article.

Hopefully these will get you started. I may be able to come up with more later. :hi:

3. Thank you, Buffy.
I appreciate all of those, but I'm not touching anything dealing with children. You don't know this forum.

One guy was ignorant enough to say that gay people can't have "legitimate" children (i think by "legitimate" he meant "the natural way"); I pointed out that as long as our reproductive organs work, of course we can. I expect to get tons of crap just for that.

:hi:

4. I don't blame you
Just reading through those posts it looked like I was in freeperville. Jeez--either southern MD is different from central MD or I just don't get around enough to have met those types of people here. :scared:
