For Sen. Bachmann, gay marriage debate is all in the family
No other state lawmaker has been more outspoken against gay marriage than Sen. Michele Bachmann, who for more than two years has led the effort at the Capitol to reserve the institution for heterosexual couples.

So when the Senate Judiciary Committee heard the Stillwater Republican's constitutional amendment against gay marriage Tuesday, it was perhaps no surprise that some of her family members were in the audience. But one surprise was where one of them was sitting — alongside fellow opponents of the ban.

Bachmann's stepsister, Helen LaFave of Minneapolis, is a lesbian. She did not testify at the hearing, in which senators rejected Bachmann's measure, but she said afterward that she felt it important to be there.

"I came to the hearing because it's a very personal issue," said LaFave, who was joined by her partner and several other family members. "Michele's been very out in front on it, and at some point I wanted to bear witness on what she's doing that's so personally hurtful to me and so many others."

It never ceases to amaze me that fundies, Repugnancans and other bigots claim they don't know anyone who's "you know ... that way" ... and then when it turns out anti-gay measures affect members of their own family they still don't give a rat's ass.

Fuck 'em. Just fuck every last one of them with a rusty spike!

3. Family means nothing to Republicans if it interferes with
their drive of greed, power, and control.

5. I think it may be the other way around. Certain politicians work out
their family-anger issues on the national stage.

8. Indeed. I would not be surprised...
I would not be surprised if Rep. Bachmann's vitriolic campaign against equal marriage is not rooted in a feeling that she was "betrayed" somehow by her stepsister's being gay.

4. It is beyond repulsive for anyone who has a gay family member
to be so dedicated toward making gay people's lives miserable.

What a miserable hateful anti-christian woman you are Michele Bachmann.

You should be embarrassed. Now excuse me while you make me vomit. :puke:

11. They hate everything except the quantity of green paper in their billfolds
They'd sell their own families if it came to that.

Looks like Bachmann has already done so, to an extent.

10. Rethugs believe that homosexuality is like murder.

Now thinking from their perspective, would you not pre-emptively stop people from murdering getting a date with one of the same sex?

Many anti-gay people do it out of hate.

Others might do it because they genuinely fear for those who are gay.

I sure as hell am not suggesting widdie biddie Bachmann is doing anything out of humanitarianism! But it's not bad to see things from other peoples' points of view... except from those who say "Fuck 'em. Just fuck every last one of them with a rusty spike!" I do not condone or advocate violence, and even Bachmann hasn't advocated physical violence and it does nothing to help anyone's cause. Except for those who have a cause against GLBT people.

BTW: I am gay. Well, bisexual certainly. But I have thought of total psychological re-conditioning. PM me if you give a damn. You will get a truthful response.
