When (and where) will this insanity end? Of all of the pressing issues that we are currently dealing with (terrorism, budget deficits, education funding, illegal wiretapping, etc.), is THIS what is really important to the American public? Baning gays and lesbians from adopting children simply makes NO sense to me whatsoever. Of course, I realize that the kind of people who are pushing such a ban(in states that don't already have them) can't be reasoned with on any kind of RATIONAL level, but still, I feel depressed and angry that we, as a country, keep getting dragged into debates like these over things that don't negatively affect society and will IN NO WAY improve the lives of ANYBODY, least of all gays and lesbians. We need to encourage (NOT discourage) loving and qualified persons, regardless of their sexual orientation, to adopt needy children. If gays and lesbians were completely banned from adopting children, then child welfare agencies would also lose a lot of critically needed potential pre-adoptive homes for absolutely no good reason. Our country DESPERATELY needs to get over our crazy obsession with other people's sexual orientation and focus on improving the lives of ALL of its citizens instead of encouraging hatred and division.
