Virginia Governor Issues Warning On Anti-Gay Amendment
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/012606vaFolo.htm

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine says he is troubled by the wording in a proposed amendment aimed at banning same-sex marriage in the state.

In his first statewide radio address as governor the Democrat said that the amendment is flawed and needs fixing.

Speaking on the Virginia News Network Kaine said that he supports prohibiting same-sex marriage in Virginia but one provision in the proposal could destroy the right of all unmarried individuals to enter into personal, legally binding contracts.

The proposed amendment defines marriage as a union of a man and a woman and goes on to say that anything that simulates the rights and privileges of matrimony is also barred.

3. "...he supports prohibiting same-sex marriage..."
Hey you progressives, don't make a big stink about civil rights! Why, you'll cost us votes and keep us from electing... candidates who are willing to crap on everything you believe in!

P.S. Please donate. We're happy to take your money.

:grr:

1. Times like this I'm glad VA has a one term limit for the governor
The governor can do what is right, rather than pander to the bigoted majority.

5. Signing the legislation even if the wording was fixed doesn't strike
me as doing what's right rather than pandering to the bigoted majority

4. they really should leave that language in
because they're forgetting one important thing:

what are the rights and privileges of matrimony? Are they defined somewhere by the government? Quick, someone throw together a definitive comprehensive list. . .

Oh this is going to be fun.

6. Ah, so marrieds are a priveleged class
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT SPECIAL RIGHTS, AGAIN?

Sorry to shout, but the married people in this country have it WAY too easy. Personally, it being a LIFESTYLE CHOICE and all, I don't think we should be attatching official societal benefits to marriage at all, in the first place.

10. Ahh... my wonderful new governor.
Don't rock the boat too much, Timmy you might get those nice, compassionate and kind right wing extremists angry at you!

Oh, by the way - I voted for you in a county that you just BARELY won. I'd like to reclaim my vote.

11. Wow! That's just wrong.
Excuse us for being gay. Dont' want any of the laws that target us harm any "innocent" straight people that don't want to get married. :sarcasm:
