NBC Drops 'Book Of Daniel'
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/012406daniel.htm

NBC has dropped "The Book Of Daniel" from its schedule effective immediately. The episode that was to have aired on Friday has been replaced with a rerun of "Law & Order".

"The Book of Daniel" featured two of primetime's few openly gay characters and was scripted by gay writer Jack Kenny.

"I just wanted to say 'thank you' to all of you who supported the show. There were many wonderful, talented people who contributed to its success – and I do mean success," said Kenny on his blog.

"I remain proud of our product, proud of my association with Sony, NBC Universal, and NBC, who all took a chance on a project that spoke to them, and proud to have made an impact on so many of your lives."

I hope someone picks this up

12. Heck, yeah!
She got on that motorcycle and then Boom! We don't know if she came back on not.

I loved that show because she was just my age...a year older, maybe too. It really brought back some memories, and I thought the portrayal of a Catholic family in Philly was right on. (I lived near Philly growing up and had a lot of RC friends.)

How any network could air something so real is beyond me. Back to fantasyland.

3. Shit
That show had real potential.

Another win for the Professional Christians who couldn't bear to see their Saviour appear and be compassionate and kind. They like him full of wrath and rage and anger - like they are.

Dickwads, all of them.

What a drag.

23. Couldn't have said it better, Counselor!
And the 'Jesus' in 'Daniel' recognized the concept of free will and self-determination, and we can't have that!

5. see, without starting a flame war
Why is it that the "good" Christians, who supposedly outnumber the freaky ones by an order of magnitude or three, don't rally? Why is it always the morally outraged freaks who believe that ideas are dangerous and who are unable to distinguish a symbol from a referent are the ones calling the entertainment shots for all of us?

NBC should not have dropped it. It's like giving in to an extortionist. Because now they are empowered to make even more absurd demands.

Dear NBC,

What if the groups that threatened to blackmail, er boycott you for showing an allegorical story about jesus and immoral homos had instead threatened to boycott you for NOT showing a frothy little jesus sitcom. Where do you draw the line? What straw was it that finally made your camel's back cave in like a Virginia coal mine?

sheesh.

14. The "good" Christians don't rally
because we have soup kitchen duty on Mondays, and every other weekend at the prison. And then there is prayer shawl knitting nights where we knit shawls for the sick and homeless, knitting prayers into ever stitch. And then we have Sunday church and special suppers to raise money for the homeless shelter. And we do the blind readings of the latest books on the second Tuesdays, and we don't have time. And we don't think keeping a fairly dumb show (just my opinion) on TV is important enough to get frazzled about.

And don't worry about a little flame war. It is SO boring here today and I'm done with my classes and be naughty hanging out here.

Rev 'em up!

17. okay, I'll take that bait and raise you

Let's see, Mondays us godless atheists are out swilling moonshine and converting innocent sheepherding cowboys to our evil ways, Tuesdays we're busy taking delivery on all the prior week's toaster ovens, or in some cases, EZ Bake ovens, Wednesdays we're diverting money from the homeless shelters and from protection rackets on the sick and homeless into our crusade to stamp out christianity from the face of the earth, Thursday we're infiltrating schools and getting children in detention to sandpaper "in god we trust" off their pocket change, and Fridays we go to Lighthouse for the Blind and watch REALLY blind readings of the latest books and laugh in braille, and in our off time we outsource knit shawls for the sick and homeless to sweatshops in Nicaragua and run loan sharking and protection rackets on vendors selling this stuff to help out charity, and on some charities too. We are just too damn busy being godless and evil, which is why we called all you "good" christians up!

Truth is, the show was probably dumb and doomed by lack of interest anyway, but it's the principle of the matter. I just wish people who wouldn't watch the show anyway would stop making their decisions for everyone else. That's what I really despise. If you don't like it, then change the channel, or go help TallahasseeGrannie do her good deeds, or something useful.

27. Gee thanks!
In one fell swoop you have managed to show LGBTIQQ people that our rights aren't nearly as important as anyone else's, especially when you consider the little fact that no one is trying to outlaw homeless people.

Now before you jump on me for homeless people discrimination re-read what I am actually saying, and then listen. I am a staunch supporter of homeless people. Their needs are just as genuine as the next persons needs. However, any positive exposure on television for the queer community helps to teach these homophobic idiots that we are just people. So while you might consider the show stupid just take into consideration all the anti gay shit you see to all the pro gay stuff you see and then understand why keeping this show in the mainstream was just as important as the soup kitchens, etc.

6. goddamn it! I mean, gosh darn it!
gotta watch the swears.
but that show was a riot.
plus, some of the characters seemed plausible, a rarity for network tv.
I'm sure the idea of Jesus Christ showing up for conversations with a pastor (Episcopalian, no less, my church, which Pat Robertson considers satanic) and gay characters (a gay mafiosi, f'chrissakes!)was just too daring for some TV execs and gave fundy TV monditors apoplexy.
DAMN!

8. Damn,I really liked it.
Although I sensed they got a lot of pressure from the Catholics when they associated the monsignor with the Mob.
I wonder if the unshown episodes will ever see the light of day down the road??

9. I think ratings were the issue...
It's a shame that the American public doesn't seem ready for a show like this, but it seems to be an issue of low ratings, not fundies (and, believe me, I have no love for fundies).

10. Darn it! Censorship wins. Don't look now Americans, your country is gone
Anyone notice they didn't air the originally scheduled program last Friday? "Revelations" was supposed to air and I think they aired the episode that would have followed "Revelations." Very sneaky. I know this because the Sunday TV guide for the whole week from the newspaper gave the show's title and the Friday TV guide had a different title. Additionally, the previews from the previous week did not match.

Something funny was going on with NBC on this show.

21. Here's a link to the American Fascist ... umm, I mean "Family" Association
crowing about how they got the program pulled:

http://media.afa.net/newdesign/ReleaseDetail.asp?id=3376

In reality, I think it was bad ratings and a bad time slot that got the program pulled, but NBC is being quiet on the issue, thus allowing the fundies to think they scored a victory.

LOL ... I just loved this part of the AFA release: "the show was written by Jack Kenny, a practicing homosexual"

At what point does one cease to be a "practicing" homosexual? At the age of 48 I'd like to think I've pretty much perfected it by now.
