Bloomberg Calls For Legalized Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/12/120905bloomberg.htm

A day after winning a reversal of a court ruling that would have legalized same-sex marriage in New York City, mayor Michael Bloomberg said he will fight for the right of gay and lesbian couples to wed.

Bloomberg in a statement said that if the Court of Appeals - the highest state in New York - affirms Thursday's ruling he would urge the Legislature to change the law to permit gay marriage.

Bloomberg's statement was dismissed by LGBT rights groups who note that it is the mayor's office which is fighting the original ruling in Manhattan that would have allowed gay marriage. Lawyers for the mayor also will argue against gay marriage when the issue get to the Court of Appeals.

is anyone else confused

3. It sounds like he wants the law changed

to legalize gay marriages but believes the law as written right now does not allow them and that he wants it changed in by the legislature not by a ruling from a court.

7. I don't know why they're making that distinction
but at least they recognize that it needs to be changed.

Hi to you in Selden, I'm in Smithtown.

4. Not really. Bloomberg is a consummate double-talker.

"Gay rights' is fine ( rights for gays is problematic). Women should have the " right to choose" ( but the president whose SCOTUS appointees will end it forever *must* be reelected). People have a right to petition the governement for redress of grievances ( but if they support a position that is opposed by Bloomberg they'd better do it in Queens, or they have to stand crammed into steel pens, or they can march but they can't rally, or they can rally but it has to be in an obscure, shadeless corner of the city in 95 degree heat.)

Bloomberg's reelection is a republican wet-dream come true: the conjoining... perhaps permanently... of private wealth and public power.
