Gay Arabs may face hormone injections, Charlotte Observer 11-27-2005

More than two dozen gay Arab men -- arrested at what police called a mass homosexual wedding -- could face government-ordered hormone treatments, five years in jail and a lashing, authorities said Saturday.

The Interior Ministry said police raided a hotel chalet this month and arrested 22 men from the Emirates as they celebrated the wedding ceremony.

The men are likely to be tried under Muslim law on charges related to adultery and prostitution, said Interior Ministry spokesman Issam Azouri.

Outward homosexual behavior is banned in the United Arab Emirates, and the wedding has alarmed leaders of the Muslim country as it grapples with an influx of Western culture.


The 26 men arrested have been questioned and were undergoing psychological evaluations Saturday. Azouri said the Interior Ministry's department of social support will try to direct the men away from homosexual behavior, using methods including male hormone injections.

Ok...if they are injecting homosexuals with hormones, aren't they admitting that this is not a "choice" but a genetically based trait--such as eye color or temperament?

Gay men take testosterone (which I assume is what they would use) for a variety of reasons--health related, or illicitly to gain muscle mass. It doesn't make them un-gay. In safe doses it's going to RAISE their muscle mass and sex drive, but the object of that lust is still going to be men. Nice situation to put them in, in what I assume is an all-male prison. Brilliant. :sarcasm: And in unsafe levels, it can lead to liver damage--or the body will convert the excess into ESTROGEN. And I tend to think any government who would behave this way is hardly a good arbiter of safe levels. Men with normal testosterone levels do not need extra; and the aromatization into estrogen can lead to BREAST GROWTH, for fuck's sake. (See Fight Club for a pop culture example of this "bitch tits" thing)

How "gay" is that?

By this logic any lesbian who ever took estrogen for any reason--and they give women estrogen for damn near anything, from cramps to mood swings to utterly unrelated health problems that the docs just don't feel like figuring out, sexist bastards--should've woken up straight. Nope again. Morons.

estrogen wouldnt do much but make their skin softer and possibly give them breasts
