DNC hiring of minister disappoints activists
Edited on Fri Dec-02-11 09:18 AM by William769
A minister opposed to same-sex marriage that the Democratic National Committee hired to reach out to people of faith says he’s a “strong defender” of the rights of LGBT people and supports civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.

But same-sex marriage advocates say support for civil unions over marriage is unacceptable for the Democratic Party and that the DNC could have chosen among a number of prominent ministers that support marriage rights for same-sex couples.

The DNC’s announcement in October that it had named Rev. Derrick Harkins, senior pastor of D.C.’s Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, to head its faith outreach program created an immediate stir when news surfaced that Harkins doesn’t support same-sex marriage and that he was incorrectly identified in 2009 as a supporter of D.C.’s same-sex marriage law.

“My record clearly shows that I am a strong defender of the rights of all people, including LGBT people,” Harkins told the Blade in an email exchange last week. “I consistently state, from the pulpit and elsewhere, that there is never a time when words or actions that dehumanize or marginalize any individual have a place in our life as a church and faith community.”

1. And they wonder why I take their beg-mail
and send it back to them with a note to roll it carefully into a tight cylinder, then insert it where the sun don't shine.

A "strong defender of our rights" would by default include our right to marry. Anything less is less than full citizenship.

2. This is what stood out for me.
“The Democratic Party should be speaking out forcefully and forthrightly in support of the dignity and equality of all Americans and equal protection under the law, which includes the freedom to marry,”

5. That's just plain stupid on the part of the DNC.
Another reason to only donate to individual candidates.

7. Double talking liar and hypocrite Harkins should not have that
job. This piece of shit is opposed to equal rights for minorities he sits in judgement of. When will this piece of shit address the attacks on his Marriage Sacrament by his Heterosexual, Christian brothers in the GOP? Why has he remained silent in the face of adultery, serial marriage, dumping of spouses in hospitals to get a younger one, why is he so concerned with love and so casually accepting of amoral, dishonest, openly adulterous Republicans? This piece of shit refuses to take his Sanctity shit to the straights who make a mockery of his faith, of marriage and of the political discourse. I'll remind the piece of shit Harkins that Jesus said men who divorce and remarry are whore mongers, and that while Harkins says much against gay people, Jesus never said a thing against us. Why is piece of shit Harkins then concerned about us and not about the whore monger? He puts his prejudices above the teachings of the man he says died and suffered for his sake? Seems that way.
I guess in Harkin's and Obama's religion, it is alright to harass and fuck around, to divorce for a younger model, to make pay off deals, to lie to the wife, then to the next wife, all of that is perfectly fine with Harkin's faith, Obama's faith, as they each find the time to speak against us, never a word about defending their Sacrament from actual destruction by their own peers.
I've really had enough of this.

9. Oh, but don'tcha know that
Britney Spears', Kim Kardashian's, and Teh Newt's multiple marriages were sacred and sanctified and yours cannot be. Gaw-dah told him so.

I'm with you. Their hypocrisy stinks from here to Andromeda.

give the Republicans a pass? Is this Harkins for real? Sanctity, yet he has nothing to say about Newt or Herman, just gays. Same with the President. One man, one woman, then that other woman, then a younger woman, then the one in the car, the one at the hotel, the one we paid off, the one we did not pay off, the one we groped....Jesus, it is so clear that the Harkins and Obamas of the world don't give a shit about marriage, they just do not accept gay people as equal to their own majesty. Hypocrites holding the coats of Republican adulterers. I mean, Obama goes on and on about how Tom Coburn is his good friend. Coburn is the 'Christian' whose job it is at K-Street to broker the hush money pay offs to the mistresses and one night stands of his 'Christian' Republican peers. He's a pimp, in essence. He procures silence so his pals can be lechers and remain honored in Congress, so they can go forth again to spew venom at gay people, between groupies. That's what Obama sees as a man to share a deep abiding relationship with. A pimp. A broker of sex deals. Tom Coburn, who rails against gays, and yet is a pimp for his pals. Obama's good friend.
Hypocrites and liars and hate mongers. Harkins needs to go work for Coburn, his Christian Brother, and they can work out the kinks in their other brothers kinks together.

13. But it's all right,
Only the 'activists' are upset. All the nice, normal people are fine and dandy with it apparently. And if you don't agree, it seems you are an 'Activist' and don't count.
