Rumor mill reminiscent of McCarthyism
Last month, a city council candidate accused Harrison and Palo Alto Police Chief Lynne Johnson of being lovers, and demanded that they be fired for conflict of interest. Ever since, Harrison has been fighting a rumor mill that just won't stop churning.

``Even my mother asked me about it. I told her, `Mom, I'm not gay. Really.' ''

It's common knowledge in Palo Alto that Harrison and Johnson are friends. Best friends, actually. They go wine tasting, travel together and own a vacation time-share.

Though both have dated men, and Harrison was engaged once, neither ever married. Both have been successful in professions dominated by men and wear their hair short -- though not real short. Proof enough that they're gay?

and she lost to KKKarls boy shrub.

Think of it. Richards was the favorite for Tex Gov. at the time. But for the dyke rumor shrub would not have been gov. , likely not been preznitwit, and no neocons in high places, no I-wreck.

All because someone whispered Anne is queer.

nice.

The power of homophobia.

So what do we do about it?

This is my problem with outing in the name of exposing hypocrisy, we simply peretuate the idea that being outed is damaging.

Kinda shooting ourselves in the foot or cutting off our noses to spite their face.

3. WHO
gives a shit?

I'm sick of having personal lives of politicians made newsworthy.

Who cares?

4. No one SHOULD give a shit ... UNLESS ...
It's a public figure who preaches one thing in public, but lives very differently in private. For instance, a "family values" public office holder who engages in extra-marital affairs in private, a closested gay or lesbian who works again LGBT rights in public, or an anti-abortion candidate who secretly hustles his or her daughter off to have an abortion.

Hypocrisy like that deserves to be exposed.
