Allen West Compares Being Gay To Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
http://www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=9174&MediaType=1&Category=26

Florida Rep. Allen West has compared being gay to liking chocolate chip ice cream.

The 50-year-old conservative politician, who is African-American, told the Fort Lauderdale-based Sun Sentinel that he believes being gay is a choice.

“You cannot compare me and my race to a behavior. Sexuality is a behavior. And so yeah, I said I can't change my color. People can change their sexual behavior. And I've seen people do that. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, so I've seen a very different perspective on human behaviors. So that's where I'm coming from on that.”

He also said it was “unconscionable” for gay rights groups to threaten to boycott the businesses of the Wilton Manors Business Association for inviting him to speak to them on Monday. The threat prompted the association to cancel the meeting.

“Now everyone has the same basic rights, and no one is telling people in the gay community that they don't have the same basic rights that any American has. But when you tell me that I cannot have a perspective on a position and you're going to preclude, like I said a sitting United States congressman from talking to business owners, I can see if you attack me, but why would you say you're going to boycott and attack businesses that want to talk to a congressman? To me that's unconscionable.”

2. I'm not gay, but I like chocolate chip ice cream.
And I don't like Allen West.

Of the three, the ice cream comes closest to being a choice -- not liking west is a necessity. ;-)

3. People like him just like to twist the facts
He never cried when conservatives boycotted businesses
If gay is a choice then someday he could decide to be gay ... no one knows what tomorrow will bring
And gays do not have the same rights as everyone else ......... unless marriage is a privledge

5. I love chocolate chip ice cream...
even if being gay was a choice, what right do we have to bash someone over a choice? A choice that has absolutely no impact on our lives? I am more concerned about some of the "fashion" choices I have seen. I am not picky either, but people plaid or floral not both.

6. There are some things that are choices
Of course being gay is not one of them. Here's some that are, Congressman West:

- being an asshole
- being a bigot
- being cruel
- attacking others while claiming to be the victim
- claiming that everyone has the same basic rights when they most certainly do not

7. Chocolate chip ice cream and being gay are both extremely yummy...
but that implies nothing about choice.
A gay man in the closet is still gay.

9. His gay relative
The sad thing is that West has a gay relative in the military he likes to trot out as proof that he isn't homophobic.

13. Being a bigot is a choice
And we have no obligation to support bigotry, or any businesses that might cater to it. Furthermore, people in previous years liked to claim non-whites and whites had the same rights when they plainly didn't, so West needs to get a clue and stop perpetuating lies.
