Monday Watercooler: Sykes takes on Morgan...and more
http://www.365gay.com/blog/061311-watercooler/

Blog is a hoax. Last week we mentioned a blog called A Gay Girl in Damascus, and that its author was allegedly abducted by Syrian officials. Turns out the whole thing was a scam. On Friday the website Lez Get Real, wrote an editorial noting Amina Abdallah Araf was not who she said she was. Fake Amia got her start on the site and provided commentary on the Arab uprising. Other news organizations also voiced doubts about the veracity of the blog and writer. According to the Washington Post, Araf is really Tom MacMaster. He’s a married guy who lives in Scotland. He admitted to the hoax on the blog,

Santorum loves his gay friends. Really he does! Presidential wannabe Rick Santorum was interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon. The former Pennsylvania senator admitted to having gay friends. He even hung out with them a few days ago, and loves them ever so much (thanks to Towleroad for the link). While we on Santorum (get your minds out of the gutter), he wants to see doctors who perform abortions, in the cases of rape and incest, put in jail (thanks Think Progress).

Tracy Morgan and Wanda Sykes. Most gay political blogs are overflowing with commentary about Tracy Morgan’s routine in Nashville. Fellow comic Wanda Sykes has taken point, calling the funny man out for his rant. “I do believe in free speech, but for a youth in TN or any other numerous place, Tracy just yelled, ‘Fire,’ in a crowded theater,” Sykes wrote on her Twitter feed (as reported by the Advocate). Morgan’s biggest sin was the bit wasn’t close to being funny. If there had been anything slightly humorous, most people would have moved on.

What is going on at GLAAD? The organization is involved in some dodgy mess. For some reason the group had an opinion about net neutrality and sent a letter to the FCC. That first letter appeared to support the policy. AT&T is opposed, and pays GLAAD’s bills. A second letter was mailed, taking back everything in the first. GLAAD suits and pr reps called the first missive a forgery, and had no idea who sent it. When a proposed AT&T/T-Mobile merger was announced, GLAAD sent another note giving the deal its seal of approval. Really GLAAD? An opinion about the merger of a donor? Wait. The stink gets worse. Former GLAAD board member Laurie Perpe went on Mike Signorile’s show and said it was time for the group to shut down because it’s being run poorly. Go over to Dan Savage for a timeline of GLAAD’s recent troubles. A GLAAD timeout might be a good idea.
