Mississippi Republicans are against interracial marriage

There’s been a hot discussion at 365gay lately about whether gay marriage should be put on the ballot again in California in 2012.

Some readers have said yes, put it on the ballot, don’t wait for the courts; others say that civil rights should never be put to a vote.

One reader, Aaron (thanks!), posted a link to this New York Daily News story about interracial marriage. The article notes that a March survey said 46 percent of Republican voters in Mississippi think that interracial marriage should be illegal – 44 years after the Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia ruled that denying interracial marriages was unconstitutional.

Only 40 percent of those polled said the marriages should stay legal. Fourteen percent weren’t sure. For context: 76 percent of those polled labeled themselves very or somewhat conservative, and 68 percent of those polled were over 46.

2. Well, that's another state I won't visit!
Bad enough those repukes are going after GLBT couples but now they gotta mess with interracial couples too? As a straight woman who had a transgender sibling (she died in 96), and since I have a lot of gay and interracial friends I'm appalled but not surprised knowing these fucks. Why don't they focus on ending the horrible poverty in that state and the Dems down there should grow a pair and fight back against those bullies!! Damn, do we have to do EVERYTHING the elected officials are afraid to do? I'm so glad I'm up north right now.

Seriously, the social dinosaurs in this world will someday be extinct. Hopefully in our lifetimes.

4. Social Dinosaurs
I agree. Probably not in my lifetime but it will happen. Unfortunately, new reasons to discriminate will develop... That's the way of the world and human nature.
