The end of DADT is a huge victory for gay and lesbian kids
Who now can grow up knowing that their country values and welcomes their service to the nation, should they choose to enlist.

It's one big step forward in giving gay kids full access to the American dream.

least one big thing has been accomplished. It will not effect me except that I now live in a nation with just a little bit more justice.

7. Looks like they're going to fit in the actual vote on the repeal this afternoon,
which only needs 51 votes to pass, then send it on to the Pres.

8. That is what I thought - they have just gotten it to the floor. Hopefully
Lieberman can keep his votes together. On this I thank him.

9. If "American Dream" means participating in wars based on lies, sure.
I support the repeal of DADT because queer people should never be denied rights that straight people have.

I am not going to be dancing in the streets because now queer people can participate in fucked-up, imperialist wars. I am not going to celebrate our right to kill innocent civilians. I am not celebrating the fact that now, more queer people can be added to the list of soldiers killed in Iraq.

I am a queer youth. A lot of my friends are queer youth. A lot of us, myself included, dream of a world without war, not a world where we can freely participate in the wars that are killing people worldwide.

It's funny how DADT seems to make a lot of people forget about how fucked up the US military is.

11. You are wise beyond your years. But there's.....
huge significance and symbolism on a civil rights level.

Sort of analogous to racial integration of the army in the late 40s. It proved to be the first of many dominos to fall.

But you're right about everything else.... which is one reason I could never get *hugely* excited re. this issue.

I lived thru the VN era. I just can't get excited about the military..... except in a negative sense.

Wow, this looks really funny with my avatar, but this is not the same as how our military is *used*, or misused.
