Breaking: White House To Map Out DADT Repeal Plan
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 08:38 AM by Ian David
Minutes ago, Kerry Eleveld at The Advocate reported that pro-repeal groups will meet with White House senior officials, including Valerie Jarrett and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina “to discuss the path forward on repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell” during the lame duck session following the midterm elections.”

She writes,

“The White House is meeting with several interested parties to discuss the legislative repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’ The meeting will concern the work that remains to be done to ensure Congressional action on this issue this year,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.”

1. Lets see if it's as messy and helpful as DADT itself. nt

3. Hang onto your hats, folks...the end of DADT is just around
the corner. A few Republicans who didn't dare vote for repeal will have gotten their reelection done, so they'll be able to vote without hurting their chances. The electorate can't remember what happened two weeks ago, so it's no risk to them now.

The military spending bill MUST be passed, and it will be passed.

Now, just let me find my popcorn...I know I left it somewhere around here...

13. Really? Name a Republican Senator that will vote for repeal.
Also do you really think Pryor and Lincoln will switch their votes? NO

Its not a plan - its just a way to try to get the LGBT community to buy more swamp land. Were just not that stupid.

15. Not only that, but thanks to the special elections, there is a chance...
...that we will have even fewer Democrats in the lame duck session. WV and IL could potentially flip (thankfully, I think DE and NY are safe) and those new Republican Senators would be seated immediately after the election, making the road to repeal even tougher.

I'm with you, I find it hard to come up with a Republican Senator that would change their vote.

Oh, and did you notice that the military's survey (the one that Obama wants completed before legislative repeal goes forward) isn't due to be completed until after the midterm elections. Isn't that a funny coincidence?

16. And they expect us to build homes with a full basement on that land. Unreal.
You're so right; it's not a plan.

4. I am hopeful that they will be able to put a viable action plan together.
But the cynic in me will believe it only when I see it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm beyond tired of riding this roller coaster.

9. I wish they'd gotten started on this earlier. After November
it's likely to be much harder. Along with a whole lot of other things.

As unfair and impossible as it is, the Obama admin really only had 2 years to effect meaningful change on this and other issues. Pubes will continue to block any and everything that might help the country (they only care about helping themselves and big business), and they will likely (if they have subpoena power) keep Obama and his admin tied up testifying on assinine committees about petty bullshit a la Clinton.

And the people actually involved say 'show me the money and we'll show you ours'. Guess who has been paying attention to such issues for decades?
