Don't Let Them Take It Away from You
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 02:56 PM by La Lioness Priyanka
Don't let the bigoted straights on DU or in real life take away your desire to want change NOW

Don't let Obama/Hrc/Barney frank or any one else tell you that protests/rallies/ground level activism is useless

Don't let the "radical left" who think we should be fighting to end heteronormativiy instead of wanting assimilation, take away from being lgbt activists that do want legal equality

Don't let people who say, we should be lobbying instead of fighting on the streets, take away from your desire to rally/march

If you went to the march, or you were just happy to see thousands of activists march, don't let these asses take that away from you. Ground level activism has always been decried, yet in my opinion it is how movements start. We control these movements. As soon as they start being controlled by the elites, we lose. So don't let these people take away from you. If you went to march, more power to you. If you supported those of us who went, thank you. .

PS: Urvashi Vaid made a wonderful speech at the rally. I hope you guys take a minute to hear it:

PPS: "radical left" is a debatable label. :)

6. anti-heteronormativity & anti-assimilation are not incompatible with fighting for equal rights.
Granted, there are those who thrive on being outsiders, but I am through acting straight and I want to marry by partner. Everyone in the rainbow deserves equal rights and shouldn't have to assimilate to get them.

8. HRC exists because of activists
and activism. Now they will be replaced by newer activism, as it should be. Those gala loving bastards are not the voice of our community, Barney Frank has plenty to worry about himself, and plenty of money to stew over and much need to deny the forward marching of time. Barney is almost redundant, HRC is too much about the high dollar salaries and play dress up events to matter much to anyone but those who play in that daisy chain. None of the new movers and shakers, none of the creative forces have anything to do with HRC. Time marches on. The march of the money out the door is the only thing that will wake them up.

9. I Will Never Be Satisfied With Anything Less Than 100% Equality
And I will never be grateful to get it. I will continue to be pissed off that it took so long. And every day I wait makes me angrier and angrier.
