Question for gay DUers
do you have any hetero friends who don't want you anywhere near their children?

If so, are you still their friends?

This question, like so many in life, was inspired by Joe the Plumber.

I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they're people, and they're going to do their thing.

7. I'm straight and I have kids and would never in a million years
think to keep my kids away from my gay friends because they're gay.

There are, however, numerous hetero folks I wouldn't want them to interact with.

members of gay-straight alliances at their universities. Now my granddaughter is a member of one. I will be pleased to have my grandchilden associate with my, and their parents', gay friends. On the other hand, I would not want them to associate with Joe the non-plumber or the OP.

This is without doubt the most stupid post I have ever seen on DU.

20. That was ONE person's opinion, hey!
I thought it was an interesting question, since my kids grew up with my gay friends always an intrinsic part of our household -- but Not-Joe the Non-Plumber is someone I would not have allowed around my kids, nor around any of my friends, of any description. Yuck.

18. 99.999% of perverts are STRAIGHT, according to the Nevada Dept. of Child Welfare...
I was amazed when they brought out that tidbit...

It was in reference to gay adoptions and gay foster care...

17. Actually, we're one of the "safe homes" on Halloween...
we get TONS of kids - and we enjoy the show - they're sooooo cute - and our puppies love 'em too!!!

Our neighborhood has developed into the local "bar" scene every month at someone's home - sure makes getting home a lot easier!!!

So far, we seem to be the only openly gay couple in these things...

and people have the nerve to ask why don't I move to another house (especially during the phoney real estate boom here in Vegas)!!!

19. I had a colleague at work once
We started out as friends, talking regularly. I was open at work, which was really nice.

However we were working in Colorado Springs.

Gradually, his attitude shifted. At the end, he said that he didn't think LGBT people should be teachers, coaches, affiliated with scouting or in any way in contact with children. He also said that he wouldn't ever allow me to watch his kids without a straight person there. Needless to say, that was the end of that friendly collegial atmosphere.

My best friend in the Marines told me right before I graduated that if he ever found out that a gay person were alone with his son, he'd beat the crap out of him. I took the opportunity of graduation to walk away, flat.

I don't need conditional friends.
