Canadian Gay Marriage Bill Heads To Summer Vote

Despite delaying tactics by the opposition Conservatives, Canada's Liberal government insists its same-sex marriage bill is on track and be passed before the summer recess.

Coming out of a party caucus meeting Liberal MPs said party members were told the government is intent on seeing the bill, which would extend full marriage to gay and lesbian couples in those provinces where same-sex marriage is not already legal, passed quickly.

The Senate has reportedly agreed to hold extra sittings in July to assure the legislation passes the upper house.
