Gay Chat Mayor: Apology But No Resignation
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/05/052405spokane.htm

Spokane Mayor Jim West returning from a leave of absence, following revelations he offered city jobs to men he met in a gay chat room, has apologized for what he calls "poor judgment in my private life."

But, he dismissed a demand from local business leaders to resign amid allegations of abuse of power over the affair.

The charges arose in a series of articles by the Spokesman-Review that outed the conservative Republican earlier this month. The paper also alleged that West had abused two boys while he was a sheriff's deputy and Boy Scout leader in the late 1970s and early 1980s. (story)
