HHS Revises Anti-Gay Web Site
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/05/051205hhsSex.htm

The federal government has changed its Web site advising parents how to talk to their children about sex after several groups said it presented biased and inaccurate information.

The site received about 5 million hits in its first month of operation. In recent days, the section on sexual orientation was changed to address some of the concerns voiced by the LGBT community.

For example, the term "alternative lifestyle" was replaced with "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lifestyle," which addressed the concern that the Bush administration was labeling sexual orientation as choice. (story)

1. Still sounds bad if you ask me:
"lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lifestyle," - the key term here being lifestyle, which seems to imply it is akin to a fashion or style people choose to engage in. I dunno, don't mean to nitpick it, just seems weird to me :)

2. You're not nitpicking, you're spot on.
It's not a 'lifestyle'... country living, urban living, homebody, thrillseeker... those are lifestyles. Sexuality is not a lifestyle.

These people are unbelievably stupid.

3. It's not nitpicking. You're exactly correct. Orientation is the word...
...that should be used. Lifestyle is purposely misleading--the clear intent of the term being to convey choice.

4. It's not a lifestyle, it's a biological imperative
Sigh. I'm so tired of hearing that shite.

5. Really shows the bias of our federal government
We are a lifestyle according to their wisdom. We are not gay people, lesbians, bisexuals or transgender people. We are not people. If we were considered people, we'd have equal rights.

7. That is a GREAT sticker!
To give payback to their Religious Wrong supporters, they appointed quite a few Religious Wrongies to various administrative positions, per "With God on Our Side," by Esther Kaplan.

That must be some fundie jerk in the position that controls what goes up on that website.
