Colorado Gay Civil Rights Bill Moves Forward

The Colorado Senate has approved a bill to ban bias against members of the state's LGBT community. The Senate Tuesday night gave its final accent to the legislation. It passed the first vote last week. (story)

The approval came despite a last minute attempt by Senate Republicans to derail the measure. When that failed GOP lawmakers attempted to have protections for the transgendered removed.

Sen. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs) sought to have a provision included in the bill to allow employers to demand their employees’ wardrobe remain consistent with their gender at the time of their hiring.

with vague language like that?

Define "wardrobe". I have a piece of furniture with a TV in it that I call my wardrobe. Even if I had my weener sawed off and sewn onto my forehead, I would still have the same wardrobe I had when I was hired.

Under that law I could never get rid of my wardrobe, even if I decided to redecorate in Italian minimalist.

What a bunch of uptight dorks.

Senator Abel Tapia revealed their family's most private business to his Senate colleagues to answer the hateful, homophobic stereotypes being spewed by those same Senate colleagues, especially Sen. Ron Teck, a usually decent man whom Abel Tapia considers a friend.

Too much of the hate comes in the name of a God the Democratic senator from Pueblo doesn't recognize.

"I was taught that Jesus was all about love, forgiveness and acceptance," he said.

Honestly, fellow DUer's the probability that our republican guv will veto this bill is exactly one. But it's a good bill that symbolically means a lot to Coloradoans who fear loosing their jobs unjustly.
