DeKalb schools face $50M shortfall; raise sup't salary 44% to $238K

Isn't that nice they look out for their 'best and brightest'

If I were a DeKalb taxpayer, I'd be up in arms. Hell, if I had a KID in those schools, I'd be seething!

What? She can't live on $165,000 per year?

AJC (entire story, photo included):

The DeKalb County school board voted Friday to give interim superintendent Ramona Tyson a $73,000 raise, even as the district faces a $50 million budget shortfall next year.

In a 7-1 vote, board members OKed the 44 percent raise, bringing Tyson’s salary from $165,000 a year to $238,000 per year.

Tyson, the former deputy chief superintendent of business operation, was named interim superintendent in February after then-Superintendent Crawford Lewis took a leave of absence SEE BELOW . She told board members at that time she didn’t want an increase in salary for her temporary role.

Mr. Lewis, her predecessor was indicted on six counts: four racketeering (RICO) charges , theft by a government employee and bribery. He faces a maximum of 105 years in prison.

Nice school board.

1. The supers who come in to "turnaround" failing schools get bonuses too.
Rumor is that such supers = "closers" i.e. their real mission is to make sure the schools fail & they're working for the ed deformers.

Maybe in this case, too?

2. Is she a Broad graduate?

Looks like the district was commended by The Broad Foundation when it was selected as the 2010 winner of The Broad Prize for Urban Education.
