KCK school board revokes charter status from Holman Academy
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 12:10 PM by proud2BlibKansan
The Kansas City, Kan., school board voted this morning to revoke the charter status from Holman Academy elementary school because of a significant budget shortfall from the charter board.

The North East Business Association, which sponsors the school, privately collected about $70,000 for the school. However, it was well short of the charter board’s contracted goal of $500,000.

The school is the only charter school in the Kansas City, Kan., School District. Although the school has lost its charter, the school district has indicated that it could keep the school open and operate it as a regular district school. The building would help ease overcrowding at neighboring schools.

Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Lane said plans for the facility will be discussed at the next regular board meeting.
