How to banish test anxiety!
Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 07:01 PM by stopschoolpaddling
My kids are all gifted, I'm sure. Anyway, they are straight A students but one time my daughter came home upset because she had brought home a paper with an F on it. I promptly ripped it up, took it outside and lit it on fire. End of problem. End of anxiety.

1. I've been trying this with my student's assignments for years...

3. Hilarious!
My dad did the same thing with one of my test papers... he lit the fireplace with it:)

I used to get straight A's to mid-term, then I'd end up with straight fails... boredom has a stiff price. Thankfully, Pops recognized this. When the school counselor called, Pops said "Your concern is noted, albeit misplaced. You should be concerned that your curriculum, or teachers, can't hold her attention more than half a term."

I did quite a bit better after that:) Tests were a game after that, and I did a lot better!

4. At a parent teacher conference one year a parent was complaining about a grade
The teacher (she was a colleague and just a fabulous teacher) reached over and grabbed a bottle of white out and said "Would you rather it be an A"? and offered to change the grade.

Then she told the parent this was 2nd grade and it was more important for her daughter to be happy and like school. The parent said yes she loves school. Teacher said well then what difference do these grades make.

5. The ideal school would be made up entirely by teachers like this.
That is awesome! Two of my children are in 2nd grade. They both hate school.
