Texas lawmaker offers choice: Abortion or $500
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/23/texas.abortion.reut/index.html

The gist of this article is that a Texas Senator is proposing a law to effectively bribe a woman prior to receiving an abortion to keep the child. If the woman has the child and then within 30 days puts it up for adoption, she receives $500.

My question: How much does it cost to have a child if one does not have some sort of insurance for the hospital stay? How much does it cost to put a child up for adoption? And who here thinks that if the government is going to offer some kind of cash to influence a decision, that $500 is -how shall I put this?- insultingly cheap?

1. Is the offer good for us boys, too? I'd likely take the 500 bucks.

2. Hey pregnant ladies, there's gonna be $500 cash giveaways at abortion clinics around the state
Come on down. All you gotta do is say you have considered an abortion, and you walk out with the cash.

Easy as that. Be sure to tell em Rep. Patrick sent you.

4. You have to have the baby and then adopt him/her out to qualify.

5. Insultingly cheap is right. Sell a baby for $500 and be rich!
The only takers are going to be women who've decided to keep their pregnancies anyway, then decided to give their flesh and blood away because their circumstances have changed for the worse.

I hate how they think adoption is an answer to everything. It isn't. I hate how they think young women who choose to complete their pregnancies are unworthy to raise their own children.

This is insulting all the way around. Shame on this peckerhead for entertaining the thought.

7. Severe fetal deformities?
Will the state pay for medical expenses to keep it alive if it cannot be adopted?
