what are some of your biggest reason to procrastinate writing?
Like me now, starting this thread:eyes:

I have been writing a book a pretty cool book (of course I would say that:D)geared toward older kids and teens and I finished my 7th chapter yesterday, but for some reason I keep avoiding it today. What gets you motivated and how long does it take you to get in the zone. I will check back later as this post has made me feel guilty to go write that chapter...:P

2. Hmmm these days I avoid this problem, mostly no choice
I have set a Gaming Company... and right now it is a one person orchestra... so as you can understand... I HAVE to write (and make maps, and maintain a webpage)

I have found that deadlines are great cures for this, whether they are external or internal

Oh and the shemeless plug of the moment

11. I agree--deadlines to help
since I don't have any pressing deadlines, I have started placing some on myself. For instance, 1-2 chapters daily. Does that sound reasonable?

12. no, go for words
1500 words a day... now if you can still go at it after that go for it.

Why not chapters you may say? I don't know about you, but some of my chatpers are longer than others.

I just got done eiting the whole game for instance, needed to be done for TODAY.... we are now on Beta stage.

18. I concur
Every time I get a great idea in my head: I lose it because I am too lazy to write it down. Of course I can make up hundreds of excuses but they all still boil down to inaction on my part.

4. worried it will SUCK
I do my best writing when I'm mad, so of course most of it ends up here, where at least some people will see it (albeit for free).

7. I know what ya mean
when I'm mad my adrenline flows, which I guess pumps out those creative juices, however, I hate to get mad so I can write but dammit I guess I'll have to--maybe I should hop over to GD-politics--that always gets me going

5. lol, I have a one page report - that is right, a 1 pager
due at work, uh, last month :eyes: and it needs to be done NOW. And, here I am... The report will take 20 minutes. The research and analysis - about 2 hours. Why not do it? I have no freakin' idea - hell, I even like the program area and the people I am writing it for. I can't explain the passive-aggressive behavior, but here I am, on DU...

8. you hit the nail on the head
"passive-aggressive" I did get that chapter written, but I think it stinks, but I keep thinking if I can muddle through and get the rough draft done, 2nd editing will tighten and polish it some...I hope

...but then, here I am again on DU--procratinating...geeze...:eyes:

13. Get an outside critc
by the way I find myself editing that web page and doing maintainance every day... (half an hour not bad for that)... but that gets me pumped up..

Oh and remember some of the greatest writers either self published or were told they were hacks in their time

14. I need to get "into" it
When I get an idea, it lasts for hours and I will write non-stop. But if I can't think...I can't write.

15. the weather is too nice
or too nasty.

The chair is too comfy or too hard.

The TV is too loud or not on.

The music is too fast. Too slow. Too boring. Or too easy to sing along to.

The dogs need to go out.

The kids need help with homework.

I need to do laundry.

Everything I wrote yesterday sucked ass.

Everything I wrote yesterday was the best prose ever put on the page and there is no way I can sustain that.

I don't want to.

I don't want to do anything else.

whew...that enough reasons?

I know I could take a percocet and a couple cups of coffee, but I generally just post a few things on DU then lay down.
