A Tie?????????
Does this mean there's dancing in the streets of Cincy?

Probably not. But it probably does mean the Eagles are staying home this post-season.

1. Did you see the look on the players' faces??
They were confused as hell. They were relieved it was over, but like they had just wasted four hours of time to end up where they had started.

2. First tie in six years...can't find how many there have been
altogether, but way back when there wasn't OT I seem to think it wasn't as uncommon. Then again, lots of going for 2 points way back when.

agaisnt the Giants in 99 I think..It was the Gus Frerotte head butt game.

3. The scoreboard may say it's a tie...
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 06:20 PM by hughee99
but I don't know how you can see this as anything but a "win" for Cincy and a "loss" for Philly. Five quarters and all you can put up is 13 points against the Bungles? Perhaps this will finally put a end to all the "NFC EAST is the toughest division in the last 10 years" talk. The Giants are really good but it falls off fast after that.

4. For a while, though, it did look like the NFC East was going to live
up to its reputation early in the season. And you're right, that's a loss for Philly.

6. First ever 11-10 score in NFL history today too.
Stillers over Bolts.

8. NFL needs to go to the college
overtime procedure. Would be good football and not so based on the coin flip, though the coin flip did jack in this game.

9. They'd have to back them up though
Trading 42 yard field goals for 3+ OT sessions would make me gouge my eyes out.

Put them at the 50; make them get some yards and earn 3 points, if it's all they can get.

11. I wouldn't argue for the same yardage.
Make them work for it. Hell, put them back on their own 40 for the first OT and then move them back from there.

I see from your profile you are an N Dakota Dem; I'm headed back up there next weekend. I'm a fighting Sioux alum, though. Went to High School in Fargo.

12. Even worse, our stupid QB didn't know the OT rule.
McNabb thought there was going to be another OT period. How the fuck do you get to be a $100 million QB in the NFL and not know regular season games end in ties? I also suspect our "brilliant" coach thought the same thing. How else do you explain punting the ball away with 1:20 left in the game on 4th and 1?

13. It's bad for the QB to not know the rule, but
Edited on Thu Nov-20-08 02:52 AM by hughee99
but it's absolutely inexcusable that Reid didn't know the rule, or that not a single person on his coaching staff seemed to know it either.

His RB's coach, O-Line and his strength and conditioning coach were all with the team in 1997 when the Eagles played to a tie against the Ravens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NFL_tied_games).

Brian Dawkins played in that game.

14. Yes and Dawk says he didn't know it either.
Reid did not say he didn't know the rule but it sure appeared that way from his actions. A bunch of other players around the NFL have come out and said they didn't know the rule. I wonder if they are just trying to protect McNabb out of some fraternal loyalty. I've known this rule since I was 7 years old, the whole thing is just amazing to me.

15. MAYBE IF THEY PRINTED THE NFL OVERTIME RULES ON A CAN OF CHUNKY SOUP
DONOVAN'S MOM COULD READ THEM TO HIM AND THEN HE WOULD KNOW.

This is like the Sarah Palin experience all over again... How many other things doesn't Donovan know? Do we need to get a reality show so we can find out?
