Winners at ESPYs.........sharapova???? ok, now, what exactly has she won lately???

Tennis players Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, along with Woods, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., NHL star Sidney Crosby and bowler Norm Duke repeated as winners in their individual sports categories.

1. Maria won this year's Aussie Open

And won 18 straight matches and was ranked No. 1 earlier this season but I am not sure when the time frame was for the nominees. She is pretty popular so that might explain why she won.

2. She's won 2 of the last 8 majors

The 2006 U.S. Open and the 2008 Australian, as bigwillq indicated.

That's probably even to anyone else in the same time frame. Maybe Venus and Henin also have two. I didn't pin it down specifically.

Henin is retired and Venus isn't a glamor gal like Sharapova. Overall I understand the choice, even though Sharapova's game is limited as hell.

It's ridiculous the Williams sisters aren't dominating awards like that in this era, based on talent level. Almost as ridiculous as Wimbledon seeding them on opposite sides of the draw. I'm still livid at that, an undeserved handout after they don't show up or play to their potential for the majority of the year.
