So what should the NBA, security, and local Police do
To make sure something like the brawl at the Palace never happens again? Put a shatterproof glass wall around the arena like in the NHL?

1. They just gave the answer on t.v.
Do the same thing they do in soccer matches in Europe. The fans are penalized by not being allowed in at the next game.

Stop the selling of alcohol at games. Problem (pretty much) solved.

3. Easier said than done

In Colorado and St. Louis, the baseball stadiums are named after beer barons. And beer is a HUGE cash cow for every sports team out there, including minor league teams. In fact, I have been known to down a beer or two during sporting events. The answer is to arrest the fans and players who choose to brawl and make sure they have a criminal record following them forever. Banning rowdy "fans" has already occured. And if a "fan" runs onto the field or arena floor, then he or she gets exactaly what they deserve. If they get pounded, so be it. Stay out of the field of play.

4. I am a realist believe me

and understand the difficulty of banning alcohol at sporting events. But unless they do, I will never believe a team (or league) that says "We are doing everything we can to make going to a game safe". As for banning "rowdy fans", excellent idea (and I think it will be done by the Pistons in this case). As for arresting the fans and players, don't get your hopes up. I am sure that all any fan did was commit a misdemeanor. So, almost certainly, no jail time.

The real story of this will be civil lawsuits against the players, the team, the league, and the arena.

5. Remember the two idiots here in Chicago
who attacked the first base coach? Well, one thing that wasn't shown too much was the Royal's players and coaches IMMEDIATELY jumping on those dumb asses and pounding them in the head repeatedly until the cops could get in and drag them away (where they probably received another well deserved beating). Or the "GoldenPalace.com" jerk who came out dressed in a ref's uniform onto the field? After he ran around for a bit, a player had enough and leveled him. Any fan going onto the court, or field to disrupt things or harm a player deserves everything that happens to them out there. Basketball is weird in that the players and fans aren't separated. Rich fans even sit on the court. Hopefully knowing that they'll be gone for the rest of the season will prevent the players from going after fans, and hopefully security will do a better job of getting the "rowdys" under control.

Not selling beer to people who appear to be drunk would be a start. I've seen vendors hand 3 or 4 beers to people who could barely even hold one steady. Limiting sales to 2 beers a person works pretty well also. Enforcing the policies they already have would also be a start. When it's time to cut off sales, CUT IT OFF! White Sox supposedly cut off sales in the middle of the 7th, but I've seen vendors still roaming the aisles well into the 8th inning.

6. I was there in Wrigley Field
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 02:57 PM by Bluzmann57
when some asshole jumped out of the stands and went after Randy Myers. Myers beat the guy to a bloody pulp and deservedly so. The police took him away too. Hopefully he got a lifetime ban from any sporting event in Chicago but I somehow doubt it. I also remember when my oldest son, a friend, and I went to Wrigley many years ago, about '79 or '80 and we had choice box seats. We were watching the Reds take infield practice in between games of a double header and some stupid bastard stood and hollered at Joe Morgan, "Hey Morgan, you're a n*****." Morgan glared at the guy and we pointed him out to the security people as they hustled him out. I wish Morgan would have gotten a shot at him though. We would have held the clown so Morgan would have had a good clear shot at him.

7. Probably stop players from going into the stands
since that escalates these things.

And throw out people who throw things onto the court. And take away their season tickets. You don't get that close to the court without season tickets, after all.
