More thoughts on the Redskins and the NFC Championship game
As every die-hard Redskins fan who has my phone number pointed out to me the day Joe Gibbs was back on board in a very clear and logical way (red state) the Super Bowl had just been decided and everyone else was playing for second, for the honor of bearing witness to the re-coronation of the all powerful Gibbs. The disgraceful period of the "Schottenheimer era" was over and he had been banished to lead the hapless Chargers in the swan song of Marty's NFL coaching career. The boy genius who is Dan Schnyder had wisely upgraded the team through the hiring coup of getting Spurrier and his expertise and now with the virtuous Gibbs in charge it was time that the glory of the Redskin nation be returned.

The fact that the last time Gibbs had coached a football game:
There was no free agency allowing Gibbs to stack his roster three deep
There was no replay review process nor was there a challenge available (IF you have a timeout remaining).
There was no "K" kicking ball
The Houston Oilers were the other team in Texas
There were still 250 pound offensive linemen not QB's
The Cardinals were in the NFC East
DB's could touch receivers
The "counter trey" was still fairly new
The Redskins played in DC

DIDN'T MATTER!!!!!! Neither did the fact that the only strategy Gibbs had devised in the meantime was "drive fast turn left".

NONE OF IT MATTERED!!!!

The Redskins were a lock for Jacksonville. No doubt about it.

Oh well.........

2. I HATE the Redskins, I HATE Dan Snyder, I HATE Joe Gibbs
and I live in DC.

Until they change their name, they're cursed.

And Gibbs is a born again Bushbot.

Go DC United!

3. Dan Snider's problem is...
...he loves the team too much. He wants quick fixes and it just ain't gonna' happen. Hiring Gibbs was the smartest thing he's done. Yeah, Gibbs got the wind knocked out of his sails but I guarantee that Gibb's ego will drive him to learn the current NFL tendencies and by August he'll have a playbook that will fit his team.

Let's face it, if Gibbs had gone with Ramsey from the start, the 'skins would have most likely made it to the playoffs. I'm really excited about next year (but first I have to make it through the baseball season! Anyone else here a hapless Indians fan?)

4. Yeah I never understood the Brunnell thing
He hadn't played a full season this century and they bring him in and hand him the starting spot. I was very impressed with Ramsey last year (he can make everything throw) and just didn't understand what they were doing.

I know a lot of 'Skins fans weren't crazy about Bailey but from what I have seen all the "experts" say he is one of(if not THE) top CB's in the league. Maybe it is the system he is in now.

Speaking of which-Arrington is completely being wasted and has been by the last three coaches Schnyder has hired. They need to let Lavar (when healthy I know) do what the Safety for Pittsburgh and the Colts do with Freeney--- just let him go and let his unbelieveable physical gifts AND understanding of the game take over. Cut him loose and yes then you are looking at a title.

5. Agree with you on Arrington.
He's a god, and could be kicking much more ass.

6. Oh yes, lets not forget the injuries
The skins were also without Jon Jansen all season and Arrington most of the season. Those were big losses.

And as long as I'm burning bandwidth here, I've got to say I love the way Ladell Betts runs. Can anyone say "Diesel" (as in Riggins)? Mix Betts and Portis together and you've got a strong running game.

I have to agree with chimpymustgo though, Gibbs religion/politics annoys me.
