You know, if I weanted to watch a brawl I could just go and watch the local lads outside the nearest kebab shop, or I could watch this, from last nights Champions League tie.

1. me thinks David Navarro
is going to have a nice little vacation. he's obivously done for the rest of Valencia's Champions League run this year (that has to be at least 6 games, right?)

Do you know, does La Liga have jurisdiction to extend punishments from Champions League play to domestic play? I remember that the FA could sanction the Chelsea/Arsenal players from Carling Cup play domestically and in the FA cup, but not Champions League.

2. .
Navarro will receive a severe punishment. I think two seasons ago, one of their players got a 7 games suspension for spitting.
Valencia has at least 2 more games this season, 5 if they reach the final. I guess that his punishment will last well into the next Champions League season, though.
His punishment won't affect the league, I'm pretty sure about that as the punishment is about getting banned for these important international matches.
But I don't know whether the league officials would suspend him in addition to the ban for international matches. It's usually not done but I remember that Rooney got a suspension for the league for a red card in a friendly at the beginning of this season.

3. yes, I remember the Rooney card penatly
but that was assesed by the FA, under whose auspices he had been playing- banning a sub from the remainder of the Champions League isn't all that helpful, really, unless the team is required to carry him for those games (which should be the case)

4. Has everyone gone nuts?
This is the second big soccer fight in a couple weeks. This is after a massive NHL brawl, and a bunch of other recent incidents. It's like everyone is one edge.

5. well, there was an Italian team involved
they like to bring the goons these days. normally in the stands, but still.

and yes, there was a street brawl outside after the Chelsea/Spur game on Sunday- the last thing the Premiership needs is more goons.

6. Seven months for Navarro
Six games for Burdissa and Maicon. other, lesser sentences to others.

Both teams fined 250,000 Euros. but Valencia does get to play its quarterfinals against Chelsea at home.
