1. I'm not convinced this is up to date. Woody Hayes is listed.
Along with a few others who are no longer with us. I started looking for Babe Ruth and the Gipper.

It lists donations made from 1978 to the present.

3. It was a different world in 1978
Pre-Reagan. There used to be a few decent Republicans. But, seriously, someone on the list could have made one donation along the way to the campaign of someone he or she knew - Dem. or GOP - and then 28 years later be listed as giving 100% to that party, as if it were a pattern of donation. It's an interesting site, but I'm not sure how useful the data is.

4. you're implying it would be more 'useful' otherwise?
How could knowing the campaign contributions of sports figures possibly be more useful if the report didn't have Woody Hayes and other dirt nappers on it?

The only 'use' the data has in the first place is to fulfill our voyeristic need to know everything we can about every celebrity, isn't it?

Besides, you can click the name and see the detail of the contributions, and with that you can see if there's a pattern or not. Looking at Andre Agassi's report, the list looks pretty up-to-date to me.

5. Actually, yes, if it was limited to the past 6 years I would find it more useful
Because I think donating to Bush and his cronies is far worse than any Republican donations that precede them.

since it includes the dates for each donation.

7. I think it proves something
I would hazard a guess that Bear Bryant contributed to the 'old' southern Democrats and would more than likely be a Republican today.

10. Amazing...
The people who I already had a premonition were dickheads -- Bob Knight, Bobby Valentine, Nick Saban, Marge Schott, Rafael Palmeiro, Dan Dierdorf, Tim McCarver -- donated to Republicans.

Also, two on those list who I have met and were also true confirmed dickheads in the flesh -- George Brett and Bucky Dent -- donated to Republicans.

Go figure.

11. Alonzo Mourning donated $25,000 to the DCCC in '04. Impressive.
And Michael Jordan gave 10,000 to Obama in his Senate Campaign.

12. Paul Azinger is a great handicapper
He gave $4200, all of it to Katherine Harris.

The golfers are the most blatantly pro-GOP. There are barely any Democratic donations among them. I saw some money from John Daly and Brad Faxon to Democrats in senate primaries. That's about it. Arnie has donated to Murtha over the years but more than wipes that out with heavy GOP donations in major campaigns. JIm Nantz of CBS gave to Lieberman, depending how you want to count that. Chris Berman also gave to Lieberman.

13. I saw Azinger on TV with Pat Robertson back in the earley/mid 90's
What a scunmbag he is. Was railing against Clinton. He's a rightwing nutcase. Also, boycotted going to The Whitehouse when Clinton was pres when President's Cup Golf team went.

14. Tom Lehman is supposed to be an ultimate right wing whacko
That's one of the reasons I took particular pleasure in the Europeans trouncing the Lehman-captained US squad in the Ryder Cup last September.

Many reporters have hinted that Lehman's off the record political comments are incredibly offensive. The one I remember that did make it to print was when Lehman walked past someone on the driving range and he heard Bill Clinton's name come up. Lehman reportedly stopped and said, "oh, you mean that draft-dodging baby killer?"

16. It's About 80%
Golf Digest did a survey a few years ago. 80% of those who admitted a political affilation were repubs. About 15% said they were not really directly associated with any point of view.

my boy Joe Gibbs gave 100% to GOP but Emmitt Smith of the Cowboys 100% to Dems. Danny boy giving to the GOP doesn't surprise me but that loud mouth Theismann gave 81% to dems does. I think I should not have looked into the list. Puts a whole other view on by Skins good Cowboys bad view. LOL.

19. surprised he donates actually
always knew that he leaned that way but he never seemed to really much care for politics. Didn't seem like a whole lot of money spent actually.
Faith based offense--pretty good.:-)
