Are my Chicago Bears going to win the NFC Championship at Soldier field
Sunday ? They'll have to play better than they did against Seattle for sure.

21. All depends on Rex the Wonder Dog..........
If he chucks it to your guys you win. If he chucks it to the other guys you lose.

2. Nope, not when you are playing the Saints and the refs.
The Patriots will put an end to this nonsense though.

3. I can empathize MrSlayer
You are a passionate fan and a sore loser and so am I. I never could figure out how to "get over it" and have yet to discover the joy of losing. What's the point? If you want real zebra malfeasance check out the 79 Arkansas-Indiana St. Sweet 16 Basketball game. There was going to be a Byrd-Magic final no matter how bad ISU got beat by another team. I still grieve. And for the ultimate fan misery may I dredge up something you are so familiar with, 1964-Gene Mauch. I think they invented anti-depressants because of that episode. I'll take the pain to my grave. I am curious however about your Patriots putting an "end to this nonsense." What are they going to do? Have last years Super Bowl replayed to ensure the rightful winner gets the trophy? I guess there is a reason they call us fanatics. I guarantee if the Saints lose Sunday, you can read all about the evil reasons why right here.

26. The one where the referees incorrectly gave Houston possession...
of the ball and also incorrectly placed it favorably to Houston. Houston won the game and went to the AFC final.

The NFL commissioner came out that Tuesday admitting that the referees screwed up Big Time, but those were the breaks of the game and Houston is going to the championship game. A travesty.

I remember Bill Gallo, the sports cartoonist for the NYDNews even had a cartoon about it.

22. They aren't "my" Patriots.
I'm an Eagles fan. I was just letting the OP know what to expect. The reason I said the Patriots would put an end to the nonsense is because that coach and QB combo are stone cold icemen. A little thing like the refs making bad calls won't stop them from driving the dagger into the hearts of this year's chosen ones. They won't make stupid mistakes when the game is on the line like that ridiculous 3 and 1 screen pass to the fullback in last saturday's game. We got jobbed on the original spot by the refs, it should have been first and goal at the three, but we shot ourselves in the foot after. The Pats won't do that. They score that TD despite the refs and win the game.

I'm not old enough to have witnessed the 1964 collapse but I know all about it.

23. I agree, at this point I expect a Patriots-Saints Super Bowl with the
Pats finally putting an end to the overhyped Saints's run. And I definitely agree that there was no way that wasn't a first down at the 3 yard line. Really frustrating, but we should have scored anyway.

4. The very question reveals the (lack of) confidence Bears fans have for this game.
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 07:48 AM by Brotherjohn
That the Bears aren't considered shoe-ins is rather amazing, considering their gaudy 14-3 record.

PDittie's post below (from Oct. 15th, no less!) asks the more appropriate question:
"Who will the Saints play in the Super Bowl?"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=215&topic_id=41877&mesg_id=41877

We used to have a Grossman. He also led our team to a playoff win, and also defeated the reigning NFC Champion. Then he lost the following week. His name was Rex Gr... er, I mean, Aaron Brooks.
;)

9. You're right.
If Mr turnover, interception, fumbler Grossman shows up, the Bears lose. If the first 5 or 6 games of the year Grossman shows up, we'll be okay. The defense has to step up that's for sure. As a life long Bear fan I can only hope for the best. After all I have been waiting 21 years for this game. My lifetime dream in sports has come true one time and that was in 1985. I'm ready for my dream to come true again. If it doesn't, well then they are still my team and will be until the day I die. My hero:

Go Bears !

If "Bad Rex" shows up on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm CST, we're "screwn"...

However, I will never forget the 85 Bears team. What a crew and your hero was and always will be mine as well. One of the classiest human beings ever to grace the gridiron....

Bear down, Chicago Bears!!!!

7. What cold? In the 30's? Besides, many players on each team cut their teeth up north.
Colston caught accumulated almost 3000 yards in receiving yards at Hofstra (NY).

Brees played at Purdue. Grossman played at Florida. 'nuf said.

15. I hope you're right, but domed teams have a lousy track record...
in outdoor playoffs.

That's why it was key for St. Louis and Indy to have home field the whole way.

Gaux Saints - all the way to the White House!

16. O And 8!
I heard it today on the radio. Dome teams are winless in 8 games outdoors at the divisional or conference level in the last 10 years. Don't know if that is really meaningful or not, since it is obviously not the only variable, but it's at least the truth.

Oh, by the way: Go Bears!

17. With that data in mind
an optimist would surmise that the odds of a domed stadium team winning is very close indeed. Drew Brees is on the cover of this weeks SI so maybe the Saints are gonna mess up a whole bunch of mojo.

How many domed stadiums are built over a voodoo graveyard?

18. Great idea! Have the Saints encouraged any voodoo on their behalf?
I remember the battling witches' curses between the Red Sox and Orioles in the early 70s. When the Orioles-sponsored witch got a few hairs of Carl Yazstremski, it was all over for the Sox.

There is always someone
being cursed in New Orleans. Voodoo doll sales are as plentiful as Hurricane Drinks. There is a little Voodoo shop in the 800 block of Bourbon. I'm not superstitious (?!?) but that is one scary place.

31. While we're trying numerology, ESPN Radio just told me that since 1997...
... in the Conference Championship games, home teams have gone 1-1 EVERY year.

That means either the Bears or the Colts are gonna lose (I say Bears).

It's a FACT!

Absolutely. Even with him being competent last week, they looked only marginally better than the Seahawks.

34. Truth be told, I look forward to a possible freak snowstorm off the lake. And I'm a Saints fan!
It should be a great game anyway, but a solid downpour of snow could make it legendary.

I could see watching "NFL Films" (do they still have that?) in 25 years:
"The cold was as unforgiving as the Number 1 Bears defense was throughout the year, and the Saints vaunted passing attack was simply rendered invisible by a solid blanket of white. But while the receivers couldn't see, Hall-of-Famer Deuce McAlister didn't need to! He rumbled for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns, plowing through the Chicago line like a bulldozer through a snowdrift! It was only a taste of what he would offer two weeks later in Miami."

The Blizzard Cool Brees brought to the city was an unwelcome storm in Chicago. The city remained cold for weeks. The Bears hibernation began long before the season was over.
