Top 100 High School Football Recruits
While watching the Army All-Star game on NBC today, I remembered I posted this list on DU last year and it drew some interest. It's from this link, with the list updated frequently before national signing day on February 2: http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=880&Year=2005&ra_key=817

The college commitment is at the bottom of each listing. If it says "list" the athlete is still undecided, and you have to visit the link above and click on the list to see the schools he's considering.

Admittedly an inexact science, but I'll point out Adrian Peterson was #1 in the ranking last year.

The USC haters have a potential new target of ridicule in #32 on this list, DeSean Jackson. He is a smooth Marvin Harrison-type WR who is apparently headed to 'SC. But he's anything like Harrison in onfield class. I'm sure Sportscenter will highlight the ridiculous move Jackson made today, in the first quarter of the high school all-star game. He caught a pass along the left sideline and had a simple walk-in TD, but decided to launch himself from the 6 yard line and do a twisting summersault in the direction of the end zone. He lost the ball on the 1/2 yard line and was lucky it was ruled down, not a fumble. On top of it, he got a 15 yard penalty for excess celebration, so a TD turned into 1st and 10 at the 16.

1. #29 is gonna be a Pro Bowl running back in the NFL

Jason Gwaltney
RB
6-0/234
Long Island (NY) North Babylon

He's the best player I've ever seen from high school on Long Island, by a MILE.

He's already built like an NFL player at 234 pounds. He scored more touchdowns in his career than my high school has in 20 years.

2. Very quietly Penn State seems to be having quite the recruiting year
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 07:01 AM by underpants
Others as well (Va. Tech has signed 3 of the top 5 players in the state-the RB from Highland Springs will play DB) but the top recruit and a co-worker's son who is the prototypical WR. I started pushing the dad towards UVa (still an outside chance) but PSU wants the kid to graduate early (already has enough credits) and enroll in the spring. This kid is can't miss-education AND physically - and flew under the radar because his HS runs to ball on EVERY down.
