worse than Philly in '64
This may be worse. Philly was at least likable. They had had many bad seasons in the 50's and 60's. and most everyone liked them. I was a cardinal fan so I was delighted. This collapse was different. Bosox are not lovable and Papelbon is a turd. With the shadow of Curt Shilling and his big mouth always overhanging the Sox this is a delight.
I know there are similar feelings about the Yankees and with good reason(Steinbrenner) but at least the have 3 classy guys(Jeter, Mariano and Posada) who win with style.

1. I remember that Phillies collapse you so enjoyed!
I was 4 years old, and my dad was a traveling salesman. He worked so much that he hardly saw his kids, so he'd wake us up to say "goodnight".

I got into the habit of asking "how did the Phillies do?" and most of the season he's say "they won", but I remember a long string of "they lost" at the end of that year, and how my dad really did NOT want to have to tell me.

He's been homebound for a few years now, but having a winning Phillies team to watch during the summer has kept him going.

The only problem is that I really don't think I'll ever get used to the Phillies winning consistently. My friend's young son thinks of them as perennial winners, like the Yankees, and I have trouble wrapping my head around the concept that there's a generation of kids that think of the Phillies as a winning team.

2. I understand your feelings exactly
1964 was my first year of rooting for the Phillies as a 5 year old. I am often amused at younger Phillies fans who think that all this winning is normal...between you and I we have seen some BAD baseball. I'm loving this Golden Age of Phillies Baseball, but I can't just forget the years when I wasn't sure we were a professional team, we sucked so bad.

I live in Indianpolis now, but I am hoping to have an excuse to go home in a few weeks, you know what I'm sayin'??

3. I do know what you're saying
On a totally "different topic", you're aware that the National League champs will host the World Series!

I like this cartoon, but it was more applicable before Vick broke his hand....

4. I LOVE that cartoon
There is no more fitting depiction of a diehard fan of Philadelphia sports....we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Even with 102 wins...LOL
