Jeter Reaches 3,000 Hits With Home Run
Derek Jeter became the 28th player in baseball history to reach 3,000 hits on Saturday, with a home run in the third inning at Yankee Stadium off the Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price. In doing so, Jeter became the first player in the Yankees’ storied history to reach the hallowed number.

Good for him. Now let's move on.

1. Congratulations to Derek Jeter and all Yankee fans
Great all-around player. I'll never forget the play he made to get the A's Jeremy Giambi at home in 2001 in the playoffs.

2. Gee. Only 1254 more hits to go to pass Pete Rose.
This was Yankees propaganda all the way. Their first player to hit 3000. You'd of thought someone else would have done it by now.

4. Congrats to the guy who introduced Tiger Woods to his first mistress!
I agree...I'm actually glad he did it, you knew he was gonna do it, so get it over with and cover other baseball stories...I mean YOU, ESPN.

6. Sure it will
He is signed for 2012 and 2013, with his own option for 2014. Figure he gets 70 more hits or so this year. He will do it.

7. Finally I can ask the question, who has 3000 hits and doesn't belong in this year's all star game?
this guy.

8. Yeah, but Jeter pulled out. Cleveland's Asdrubal Cabrera will start.

9. He did? I had not heard.
A classy move then on Jeter's part, then. This was more a commentary on All Star voters than Jeter, in any case.

12. Good for those of you with the grace to congratulate him.
It takes years, stamina, talent and desire to achieve 3,000 hits, and he did it with a lot of class.

For Yankee haters, both Rivera and Rodriguez also pulled out of the ASG citing injuries. So please don't complain about a field full of Yankee starters.

Thanks.

13. And, 5 for 5
That's rising to the moment. Five hits and a homer to get 3,000!

That's awfully cool. Only one other guy got his 3,000th as a homer (Boggs), and only one other guy went 5 for 5 on the day he got 3,000 (Biggio). Jeter did both. I kind of doubt that will happen again.

So, that was probably a true piece of sports history.

14. ESPN said Biggio went 5 for 6.
Who knows if they got it right, though?

15. No, That May Be Right
I wasn't clear. I meant 5 hits. I don't know how many at-bats. That's my fault.
