Cavs win draft lottery, will draft No. 1 & No. 4
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-draftlottery-cavaliers&active_dimension=carousel_nba_top_headlines&ysp_frm_woah=1

CLEVELAND (AP)—Just as they did eight years ago when the Cavaliers won a chance at drafting LeBron James(notes), Cleveland fans erupted when their team won the NBA draft lottery.

Hundreds of fans who gathered at the team’s draft party, counted down the final picks and then screamed and chanted “Let’s Go Cavs” moments after the team wound up with the No. 1 overall pick. The Cavs were doubly lucky: they also have the No. 4 overall pick.

In 2003, the Cavs won the lottery and used the pick to select James, who gave them seven great seasons before leaving as a free agent last summer. Without James, the Cavs lost 63 games, a 42-game swing from the previous season.

The Cavs will likely select Duke point guard Kyrie Irving in June’s draft

The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the NBA world leaving the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery with the first and fourth overall selections in the upcoming draft. With the two overall selections, the team had been given a 22.7 percent chance at landing the first-overall selection. Mathematically, the Cavaliers should have received the second and eighth selections overall – the selection received from the Los Angeles Clippers in return for Mo Williams, with a 2.8 percent chance of being the first overall leapfrogged the team’s own pick which had a 19.9 percent chance.

sports-wise. With the surprising start of the Tribe and now new hope for the Cavs, there's cause for renewed optimism. I have faith Mike Holmgren can turn the Browns around too.

2. Every year I am very confused as to how they decide to give a team first
shot, and now 4th shot also.

4. Ping pong balls
Cavs traded Mo Williams to the Clippers in exchange for Baron Davis and their 1st round pick. Cleveland finished second worst and LA eighth worst, thus earning two shots in the Draft Lottery. It was the Clippers spot that won the first pick.

Hopefully Lebron took "the Curse" with him down to South Beach.

5. Weird system I'll never understand

Worked out for Cleveland this year, but shouldn't the team with the worst record be guaranteed the first pick?

6. They did this system to keep teams from losing "on purpose"
towards the end of the season to ensure the first pick.

8. Don't teams increase their odds for the first pick by losing anyway?

13. They do. But the system of % and not the worst record getting the pick
"equals" the playing field for the first pick. Timberwolves had the worst record. Using the % system they may get the most chances but overall don't have enough picks to guarantee the first pick. Most the time, the NBA draft doesn't award the worst record with the first pick by this system.

7. this would be a very good year to unload the first (or 4th pick) for a player
like Dwight Howard who seems to not want to play in Orlando after next year. Provided, of course, they could sign him.

9. Every mock draft I'm looking at so far
has Kyle Irving going number one. If they do pick him they still got a shot at Derrick Williams at #4. I think he'll be gone in the top 3.

12. I don't know the numbers.
But my intuition tells me that the odds of one of the two being a bust are more than the odds of a #1 and two more good picks being better. Maybe kick it down the road to next season for a high second and third...

Maybe I'm too Belichickian...

15. I'm sorry to say but Belichick wouldnt do that..
there is no third round in basketball's draft. Although that would be quite a sight to see, giving up a 4th pick overall for a non-existent pick, never has happened before, so maybe you are on to something. I wouldn't put anything passed Gilbert :)
