Barry Bonds and The Black Sox. Key evidence not shown in either court.
One big similarity:

Bonds' prosecutors couldn't get star witness, Greg Anderson, to testify even after jailing him.

And in 1920 (from Wiki):
Prior to the trial, key evidence went missing from the Cook County Courthouse, including the signed confessions of Cicotte and Jackson, who subsequently recanted their confessions. The players were acquitted. (Some years later, the missing confessions reappeared in the possession of Comiskey's lawyer.)

But Bonds will live the rest of his life in infamy, just like the 8 White Sox cheaters (minus Shoeless Joe - maybe).

1. That Bonds will likely walk from perjury charges really burns me
Steroids? BFD... a lot of players did them, and they'll live in infamy just as well Bonds. And the asterisk will forever be associated with their stats. Baseball fans do not forget.

But perjury in court or before the Grand Jury is bad stuff.

It's one big middle finger aimed at our system of laws and to you and me, and underscores a state of declining morality in which the well-to-do -- most of them at least -- believe it's okay to operate in. If there's any consolation I can take from this trial (unless Bonds is found guilty on all or some counts) is that it cost him a ton of dough in savings and future endorsements and reminded us what a jerk he is.

I hope the San Francisco Giants distance themselves from Bonds. The association only tarnishes the franchise.
