Report: Eagles pressured Vick to cancel Oprah appearance
Posted by Mike Florio on February 17, 2011, 7:22 AM EST
As more details emerge regarding the decision of Mike Vick to cancel his appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, FOX 29 in Philly reports that the Eagles had a hand in keeping Vick away from the program.

Per the report, Vick made the decision not to proceed with the interview after the Eagles voiced objections to it.

I dislike him, but I think he has a right to say what he wants to or go where he's invited. The fact is the Eagles are afraid of bad PR from this and thats pretty assinine considering how often they rush to praise how much he's done for them and how proud they have of them. Hypocrisy at its worst in my opinion.

1. Quite frankly, I think Oprah would have treated him with kid gloves...

2. Odds are it was Vick who decided to cancel...here's why...
Earlier today, we surmised that Eagles quarterback Mike Vick possibly decided to cancel an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show because he feared an ambush from the owners of one of his fighting dogs, perhaps with one or more of the dogs making an appearance, too.

For a change, we may have surmised correctly.

Michael McCarthy of USA Today reports that owners of dogs rescued from Vick’s rural Virginia property had been “flooding” Oprah’s show with calls and e-mails requesting that the “voices of the victims’ families” be heard on the show.

Radio host Wayne Hunter, who tried unsuccessfully to question Vick regarding his former dogs during Super Bowl week in Dallas, told McCarthy that Hunter believes Vick bailed because he feared being confronted by one or more of the people who adopted his dogs.

“True to form, when Michael Vick feels the heat, he scrambles out of the pocket,” Hunter said.

3. Interesting.
Sounds like both the Eagles and Vick himself are afraid of bad PR. I have no doubt both contributed.
And I do think Oprah would have been very kissy-kissy with him. None of the above have ever shown any interest in real conversations on the topic..only carefully controlled events
