SALT LAKE CITY - KSL Sports has learned Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan and assistant Phil Johnson will resign their positions effective immediately at a press conference at 3 PM.
Wednesday night after the Jazz lost to the Bulls Sloan, who usually holds his press conference 10 minutes after the game ends, took 45 minutes to come out to address the media. When he did talk, he said he was in a meeting with Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor and they would let the media know what is happening at the appropriate time. That time appears to be Thursday at three.
Sloan was an assistant to Jazz Coach Frank Layden and then took over the team when Layden retired in 1988. Sloan took the Jazz to the playoffs in 16 consecutive seasons and coached the Jazz in the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. They lost both series to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

There's still no word as to why the coach's have decided to resign, but those questions should be answered at the press conference expected later today.
