After the US Women's Hockey Team were presented with their Silver Medals...
Canadian Hockey Fans in the arena started chanting USA! USA! USA!

They. Are. Bitchin'.

Would we, as their neighbors to the south, cheer them in the same situation with CA NA DA! CA NA DA! CA NA DA! I'd like to think we would. I would.

4. That made me proud of my fellow Canadians...
We're even able to be friendly and classy and sweet about hockey, of all things. Awesome!

7. Ummm... these were the same Canadian fans who chanted "Oooooviiiie! Ooooooviiiie!"
in the third period of Ovechkin's, and Russia's, EPIC FAIL last night.

One hopes the women's fans were sincere, and not mocking us, but...

8. To be fair...
...they chanted that because before the Olympics Ovechkin had said something like it would be 'sweet' to beat Canada on it's own ice...so you know...they razzed him for it when the Ruskies ended up getting their butts kicked.

I heard the "U.S.A.!" chants tonight too...I think they were sincere. Made me proud to hear as a Canadian.

9. I thought it was sincere, considering that there were pretty loud cheers
for each individual as well - louder I think than the 2 or 3 USAmericans in the audience could have mustered. :)

It also sounded like it evolved into a Ca Na Da! cheer toward the end. Pretty cool fans, but I doubt we'll see such a love-fest if the men's teams meet again...

15. Plus, if you read some of the things the Russian papers wrote about Vancouver
you'd think the Canadians had a little provocation. Not that it's Ovechkin's fault.

Here's a sample:

~We all know Canada has problems with the future lines drawn on Arctic maps and we all know Canada lives in the shadow of its larger neighbour to the south. The abject cruelty shown by Canadian soldiers in international conflicts is scantily referred to, as indeed is the utter incapacity of this county to host a major international event, due to its inferiority complex, born of a trauma being the skinny and weakling bro to a beefy United States and a colonial outpost to the United Kingdom, whose Queen smiles happily from Canadian postage stamps.

Maybe it is this which makes the Canadians so…retentive, or cowardly. So it is not exactly a huge surprise to have international skating experts from the four corners of the Earth criticising the decision to award the Men’s figure skating Gold medal to the US athlete Evan Lysacekv over the reigning Olympic Champion Evgeny Plushenko, whose superior performance was inexplicably ignored. ~

16. Pravda has not been a real Russian paper since the fall of Gorbachev
these days, it's more like a cross between Britain's Daily Mail and our own National Enquirer, complete with UFOs. :eyes:

10. Do you really think they would have cheered the US team that way had Canada lost?..
It was very nice of the Canadian fans to have done that but if you're conjecturing whether US fans would have been such good sports, you need to admit that it's a hell of a lot easier to be so gracious when you're the winner. My guess is that they would not have cheered quite that enthusiastically had the US team won, although I'm sure they would have applauded very civilly.

11. Right? seriously!
If WE had won? haha, They care a LOT about Hockey and they're only human...I have to say though I really enjoyed watching them celebrate the win and am sincerely happy that it turned out that way for them.

It was hard seeing Our girls so upset and MAN!! I couldn't believe they handed out the medals so soon after the game - That had to be hard for Team USA. I'm proud of them, they handled it well and they are a Kick Ass team. :patriot:
