Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan leaving Broncos -- Dolphins interested
Updated: January 18, 2010, ESPN.COM

Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan have split.

"I can't say anything other than Josh and I mutually agreed to part ways," Nolan said on Monday, according to the Denver Post.

Miami already has requested an interview with Nolan, sources close to the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. "I have great respect for Mike and wish him success in the future," McDaniels said in a team release.

The Broncos started 6-0 in their first year under McDaniels but fell apart in the second half of the season and missed the playoffs. They lost their final four games and gave up 44 points to the lowly Kansas City Chiefs in the season finale.

1. I recall for awhile
Denver was top 5 in total defense for most of the season. I'm sure with those 44 points on 2-8 finish they fell out. Either way he should help w/ the league's worst pass defense (No disrespect Tru, just going by stats) if he does go to the Dolphins.

3. Sure the Dolphins are interested
they're interested in anything that might improve that woeful defense. You see, in 2009, the Dolphins and their fans finally found out what playing a REAL schedule is all about.

5. And the douche strikes again
What about the WEAK schedule your whiners had this year????

You went 8-8. Shouldn't you have gone 11-5 like the Dolphins last year???

7. Don't let Douche two get to you..
His team had the easiest schedule in the NFL and still only managed 8 wins.

Plenty of upside for Miami... with hardly any for SF.

9. If I were you...
I wouldn't screw with Upton. His prediction as to how the overrated Dolphins would fair when having to play a REAL schedule was spot on..

Meanwhile, lets check out trumad's prediction: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=215&topic_id=81422&mesg_id=81436

No trumad, I KNEW they wouldn't be better in 2009, because, after all, your weak little Phins were having to play a REAL schedule.

14. Mike Nolan will be Miami Dolphins' new defensive coordinator
<snip>

"In a situation that went from bleak to bright in a matter of one day, the Miami Dolphins have suddenly landed a defensive coordinator that might be a better fit than each of the candidates that previously shunned the team.

Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, who parted ways with the Broncos on Monday, will join the Dolphins as the team's replacement for Paul Pasqualoni, sources said. The hire comes eight days after Pasqualoni's firing.

Nolan, a former head coach of the 49ers, is considered to be among the top NFL resources when it comes to the 3-4 defensive scheme that's currently run in Miami. He was the defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells when Parcells was the general manager of the Jets in 2000.

The situation that led to Nolan's availability is not entirely clear, but the course of events that led to his arrival in Miami could not have been more fluid. Last week, the Dolphins sought permission to speak with Nolan, but he was still employed by the Broncos.

However, after a season that led to philosophical differences between he and coach Josh McDaniel, the pair decided it was best to split ways. It also could have helped that Dean Pees sprung available when he left the Patriots four days ago.

Pees is a likely candidate to replace Nolan in Denver, which made the split easier. Immediately, the Dolphins were in the mix for Nolan. And now, they've hired him.

The Dolphins have not officially announced the move."
