Just before Miami's plane left South Florida for Charlotte, the team made the crushing decision to place its best player on the injured reserve. Running back Ronnie Brown is done for the year, according to team sources.
In a season that has already dealt with its share of deflating news, this one surely tops them all. Brown, who was on pace to set a career-high in rushing yards this year, was having his best season as a pro.
Now, there's even reason to wonder whether Brown might have played his last game with the Dolphins. Depending how the league's collective bargaining agreement shakes out, Brown could become a free agent at the end of this season.
But before Miami worries about the long term, it must first deal with the short-term repercussions. During their most successful times, the Dolphins have relied on Brown's battering ability on the ground -- both in the base offense and out of the Wildcat.
