The 30 for 30 movie, "Who killed the USFL?" just started on ESPN. Do you think there will be another serious spring football league? The XFL was a catastrophic failure and there is apparently another spring league in the works. I don't think it could happen unless you started to see the top college prospects go to the spring league. But its really a chicken and egg thing. You'll never get the top college players to go to a spring league unless it was really legit. But a spring league will never become legit unless it was able to steal some top players from the NFL.

1. Probably not. The only leagues are fringe type leagues (i.e. semi-pro)
that serve a niche market. The Arena Football League as long as they had a contract with ESPN and NBC was able to run for nearly 20 years.

I just don't see there being a rival league able to compete with the NFL. The amount of money to start such a league is really way too prohibitive to actually think it would work.

2. It really makes you wonder how the USFL did it
granted the NFL wasn't QUITE as big as it is now, but it was still pretty huge, yet they were able to get guys like Hershal Walker, Reggie White, Steve Young, and Jim Kelly. I can't imagine Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy signing with this new spring league that's in the works.

3. That was 25 years ago, and they only lasted a couple of years.
They threw a boat load of money at a few guys, and look what happened.

Dallas won THREE SUPER BOWLS as a result. Oops. The Minnesota Vikings were not a USFL team.

4. I thought it was a very good documentary. As for the answer, there is a competing league
...its called college football; and its a better product than the pros.
