Former SuperSonic Shawn Kemp arrested

SEATTLE — Shawn Kemp, a former Seattle SuperSonics power forward, was jailed today after officers stopped a pickup truck he was in and found what appeared to be marijuana and cocaine, authorities said.

King County Jail spokesman Capt. Troy Bacon said Kemp was being held for investigation of drug possession.

Without naming Kemp, the King County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying the arrest happened around 1 a.m. in Shoreline, a suburb north of Seattle, after an officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana while talking to two men in a parked Chevrolet pickup.

After searching the truck, the officer found what appeared to be a small amount of cocaine, about 60 grams of marijuana and a semiautomatic pistol, the sheriff's office said.

1. Is anyone surprised about this?
Anyone?

Didn't think so. Poor Kemp, he faded fast didn't he? For like 4 years there he was a real star. I don't think today's young fans would even recognize the guy at this point.

2. Sadly, I'm not surprised; I really wish he could have kept it all together
He had so much potential, but squandered it through his lack of discipline. He might have been the most athletic big man ever, and could have easily been a star if he could have stayed in shape. It's a shame that he had to go out like this.

4. Yeah, he was great.
That team with Payton, Detlef (sp?), Kemp, et al was really fun to watch. But when he came back a few years later, I thought, "Jesus, he's aged in dog years." He looked 20 years older and 100 lbs. heavier. He really let it go.

3. The funniest part?
I think the Blazers are still paying him for his contract.

5. Again, is anyone surprised
The Blazers will pay anyone that can smoke pot and bounce a ball at the same time.

I'm sorry, I feel bad for the guy, kinda like
Doc Gooden or Robert Downey, Jr., just can't
beat those demons.

But still, when I think about old Trader Bob...

7. Old Trader Bob.....
Made everybody in Oregon (AND I MEAN EVERYBODY!) forget about Larry Weinberg picking 'Tails' in the coin flip for the first draft choice in 1984. You get to call the flip, you call heads, dammit!

'We' coulda had The Dream.

But that's nothing compared to the detonation of the Blazers in Whitsitt's reign.

8. We got close in 1990 and 1992 though.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 09:36 PM by kaitykaity
I know, close is no banana, but getting beat by
Detroit and Chicago in the Finals is nothing to be
ashamed of.

But d*mn. Isiaih Rider, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn
Kemp, Bonzi Wells, Zach Randolph -- the list of
head cases goes on and on and on....
